Seem to have been many more "weak" tournaments ( both men and women ) since the summer. More tournaments ?

It'll be the 15-year-old in her 3rd 10K, who got her first win at this level this morning. Taking the opportunity to update Laura's ranking too:

It's a false ranking because it does nothing for progression. These players could end up ranked in the 500s quicker than they should then realise they are not able to compete in competitive matches. You learn more from losing against good players than you do from beating unranked kids and backpackers.

I make that to be she'll go up about 60 place to WR 755 or so - it's quite an achievement - and nearly all her points coming from the sunny climes !

Which makes it a false ranking really similar to Danielle Ko. Doesn't really do anybody any good long term. There are better unranked British players than these two I believe.

Why is it a false ranking just because they were tournaments in Egypt, Israel and Greece ?

Lots of other players play there and get their points. Therefore there should be lots of 'false' rankings and our other girls should be slaughtering those players in matches in the UK and the rest of Europe. Which they're not. Long-term, it's the same for everyone.

Laura D definitely got lucky when she got 4 points following two retirements but the other victories are victories. We've had Jess Simpson and Sophie Watts getting huge points from UK tournaments when they got very lucky with the first round draw. There's obviously some luck. And there may well be better unranked players than Laura D and Dasha - it's not that amazing to get to WR750. But Katy Dunne's just been out to Egypt and not come home with a whole heap of points, others similar - it's not as easy as all that.

And if Laura has simply been a bit canny with her tournament selection, then well done her. Certain players such as Lucy Brown would do well to ask her how she does it.

But there are some excellent players playing there. Katy just lost to Elise Mertens. Yes, there are a whole heap of talented youngsters, but also some more senior and a lot of the 'normal'. It's quite understandable for players who want to play outside and in the warmth to do the tour out there. The Egypt drawlist this week is pretty similar to the Manchester one and stronger than the Finnish one (just to take two northern european examples).
So the progressions from winning the matches there will be the same. if not more, than winning the matches in Finland (unless all 10ks are just backpackers).
And if there were so many false rankings i.e. players who are WR500 but shouldn't be, then, as I said, our players should be able to pick them off in all the other tournaments - but that doesn't seem to be happening.

I wasn't talking about Katy though she has been competitive against top500 players and will continice to progress as will Katie Boulter Freya Christie and Harriet Dart. I don't think you see the point I'm trying to make here.
