Rio 2016

I'm really sorry to see this with the women. Were the comments made unfortunate? Yes. But surely loyalty to people who have been loyal to you is a virtue at some point. A quiet discussion, issue of apologies all around, and it's all over. After all, no one else was involved, so no one else's feelings need to be considered.

Perhaps they were concerned that there would be a discrepancy with their treatment of Benoit Paire. But the two things are quite different: one was around intemperate comments made in the heat of the moment by those who perhaps care too much; the other involved consistent behaviour indicating that someone - to the detriment of at least one other person, who could have taken his place - cared too little.

A little less wounded amour-propre, people. A little more discretion.

French stuff and nonsense on a British Tennis forum

Please stop, this thread should end, congratulations to

Mr A. Murrapy OBE double Olympic Men's Singles Champion. London 2012, Rio 2016

By all means amend with Sir as and when appropriate

Mr Murray has his own / Men's Rio thread, precisely to celebrate his status as

As do the women.

And there's a general thread for other GB sporting interests at Rio (and weren't they blinkin' marvellous?!?!)

This is for 'other tennis stuff' related to Rio - i.e. non-GB

NB Your point, Spectator, is well made - lumping the three together, with a general ban and criticism (although I expect it to be changed, come 24th September, and some differential made, especially when M. Garcia has thrown his toys out the pram) has been called the height of bad management/no management by many....

Just to conclude the French diversion on this thread, re the FFT's daft face-saving politicking:

Quelle surprise, as of this weekend, the FFT has decided to lift the ban/not confirm the provisional ban on Caro Garcia and Kiki Mlad

The FFT 'recognises its own part' in the mess over their match in Rio (in a 'general manner' only), the girls have apologised (the FFT claims) and so - hey presto - they can now play Fed Cup !

As though that was ever in doubt.....

Benoit Paire's suspension is confirmed (as though he'll care two hoots one way or the other).

We're public guardians bold yet wary,
And of ourselves we take good care.
To risk our precious lives we're chary,
When danger looms we're never there,
But when we meet a helpless woman,
Or little boys that do no harm,

We run them in, we run them in,
We run them in, we run them in,
We show them we're the bold gendarmes.
We run them in, we run them in,
We run them in, we run them in,
We show them we're the bold gendarmes
