Super to have 3 in the QFs, though being really greedy an Ed vs Josh QF would have been very nice. Interesting to see how Josh now does against Nevolo. One more win here for Josh to be back in the top 500, the 16th Brit to secure that for the end of year.

Great to have 3 in the QFs and whilst I agree it would have been brilliant to have 4, part of me worries what that would have done to Steven - making him look for the last time 4 Brits were in the QFs of the same challenger, outside the UK. I think he might have imploded

Good luck to all 3, I assume Steven has already done the 3 Brits in the same Challenger SFs research so it's safe.

Dan breaks and will serve for the match and 29points catapulting him back into the 300s......

Not sure he'll get into the 300s though.

He's got 7 points coming off this week so only 22 to go on which leaves him at 95 which is about 404

edit: forgot to add the 3 so that's 25 to go on i.e. 98 in total i.e. WR 396, you're quite right.

I haven't, but if starts to look like it might happen, I'll be happy to! Or I might just cheat with "first time this century" LOL

For me, it is not just that we have 3 players in an overseas Challenger QF, but that NONE of these players are in the GB top 5. Their current GB rankings are Rice (6), Smethurst (15) and Milton (21)

Let's face it, we would have been delighted if it was Wardy, Evo +1, but the fact that it is three of our (relatively) lower ranked players makes it even more remarkable.

Relatively lower ranked and in Dan and Josh's cases I would of said - having been relatively out of form.

Hands up these who saw this coming.

OK, liars, put your hands down !

Apology accepted, Indy.  At least you realised your error! wink

Dave playing quite well but Groth deserved the first set - very good set of tennis.

3-2* to Dave, on serve, in the second.

Dan S is on serve in the first

Dave just had one bad service game in the first set but otherwise is doing well. Not many free pickings on the Groth serve though, although he may regret the forehand he missed at 30-40 on the Groth serve early in the 2nd set.

Yes. BP chances, or even chances of BP chances, are so rare that he fluffed the one makeable one he had. Groth puts his opponent under a lot of pressure by constantly rushing the net. But it's close - really pretty close.

That's a scary serve. Impressive to get it to 6-5.

Dave can't quite manage to snaffle the second-set tie-break, losing it by 2-7 & with it the match 3-6 6-7(2).  Spirited effort, though!

Good match from dave but Groth was just that bit better today. Fair score.

Meanwhile, two hugely close games (on scoreboard) form Dan s, resulting in two breaks 5-5

Pity for Dave but I thought he played pretty well.

Good news on the other court where Dan S breaks back for *5-5 having lost his serve in the previous game.

Dan takes the first set tie-break against his fellow qualifier, Dimitar Kutrovsky, by 7-2. smile
