I would say Smethy is strong mentally, he's made alot of comebacks in particular a TB when he was 6-1 down, so that is a big asset.
He has a very solid baseline game that generally doesn't break down, I think he could certainly match what Alex has done if not better.
That's good to hear. I might have caught him on his best day of the year but it was a really impressive display yesterday, and Polansky didn't give it to him either. Completely different from the pretty mediocre stuff being offered up by both Ed and Nevolo today.
'course, he'll probably not put the ball in the court later today but hey . . . .
Mr Rice and Mr Smethurst play early today, Mr Rice second on Court 1 and Mr Smethurst first on Court 2. Mr Milton is fourth on court 1. The early starts for Messrs Rice and Smethurst were necessitated by the fact that:
Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst CR 1036 (591+445) d. Bjorn Fratangelo & Filip Peliwo (USA/CAN) CR v1330 (715+615) 6-4, 6-2.
A mirror image of their next opponents' 6-2, 6-4 win over their 1st round foes. And so "after suitable rest" on Court 2:
QF: Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst CR 1036 (591+445) v. David Rice & Sean Thornley CR 416 (210+206)

Thoroughly enjoying watching a bit of the 26 year-old Bulgarian's match. A small, slight player who hits double-handed shots from both sides. Quite unusual but good to see something different !
