RE: Week 45 - ITF ($10K) - Loughborough, UK Hard

Brilliant results from our two 1997-ers.

And with Rona so close today, Katie B so close yesterday, some good showings from others, and Anna S on song, it's been a good couple of days :)

Anyone seen Jasmine play? Have to admit I hadn't heard of her before this week.

I see she is only two months older than Freya.

What a really encouraging couple of days, with the youngsters performing so well and Anna reasserting herself.

When I saw the original R1 draw, and with Lucy (5) our only seed, I said that it would be nice to get 3 into the quarter finals. 4 is even nicer !

Haven't seen her play before, but Jasmine does play quite a lot of Junior tournaments and I think has been named in a few GB Junior squads so I was aware of her name before.

It's Rona Berisha I have more questions about. No Junior career to speak of and a brief, unsuccessful attempt at a few 10Ks over 2 years ago.  Now she looks like one of the favourites to be next Brit to gain a world ranking.  Anyone know what she's been up to her or what her 'story' is?

I've not seen Jasmine play yet, but hoping to get to Manchester for first round where I see Jasmine has been given another main draw wildcard.

Suspect the winner of the Anna S QF match will go on to win the event. I think they are all 50/50 matches. I'd give Anna S the best chance, followed by Katie. The two young'un are both capable, but it's a big ask to keep winning at this level.

Unless they are going to be very good players, as opposed to just capable, in which case they really ought to relish the challenge. Apart from the #1 seed (ranked mid 300s), the rest of the field are all outside 550, so it's certainly not impossible.

Impressive results so far this week.smile

Last year the 24th and 25th ranked British women had 4 points each for an entire years play.

This week 2 British women who are not in the top 25 have earned atleast 4 points in 1 week.

Well, the German Tennis Forum must be feeling pretty glum: they had

(a) the number one seed - knocked out in the quarter finals,
(b) the number two seed - knocked out in the second round to a 15 year-old qualifier,
(c) Amelie Inert - knocked out second round to a 16 year-old qualifer,
(d) a qualifier who lost to a Brit qualifier, and
(e) one decent-ish result - a qualifier who beat another qualifier and then lost in three tight sets to the number 3 seed.

great result from Anna - whizzed through that second set, keeping lots in the tank for the doubles.

Katy finally succumbs 6-4 6-4.

And now over to the 'real youngsters'.

AND a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Freya, who turns 16 today.

Katy goes down 4 & 4 to 8th seed Vajdová (who, as was pointed out to me on Twitter, is lower-ranked than her on the live rankings at the moment) but will get a new career high on the back of this week's run, probably just outside the top 700.

Katy got off to a flying start, losing just 1 point in the first 2 games, I think, but has since lost 5 games in a row *2-5

Anna won her first service game and had no less than 7 break points on Hofmann's serve but didn't manage to convert any of them She has since held to love though 2-1*

Anna has had zillions of BPs (well, 9 . . ) and only managed to convert one. Now 5-4* to her so time for timely break . . .

Katy lost the first set 6-4 but currently 1-1 40-40 - she likes a battle . . .
