RE: Week 45 - ITF ($10K) - Loughborough, UK Hard

From *3-5 down in the 1st, Izzy won 5 games in a row and eventually beat Palmigiano 5 & 3 - her biggest senior rankings scalp to date by some distance

Izzy has been ranked before based on results in Australia, but this is her first ranking point as a Brit.

Suddenly the seeds aren't doing so well - Jasmine is 5-2* up against 5th seed Lucy and Katy has just bagelled 4th seed Amy Bowtell (IRL) in the 1st set!

However, 6th seed Tess Sugnaux (SUI) has taken the 1st set against Nicole 6-3

Freya Christie has certainly been doing well in juniors recently.

Nice to be geting a senior ranking, albeit her 3 points so far will be as a result of 2 separate victories over the even younger Maia Lumsden ( this latest one much closer than on Nottingham's grass in June ) plus a MD WC into the recent Loughborough 25K.

Two Brits get their first WTA singles ranking points - Rona beating Georgia in 2 close sets and Jasmine, upsetting our only seeded player here, Lucy.

Fitzy is pretty much done isn't she?

Congrats to Rona but a shame it was at Georgia's expense

Seven through is slightly better than expected, but surprised that Jasmine beat Lucy. Nice to see Rona getting her first point, about time...

Anna S is playing well enough to make the QF. Katy should win the battle of the Brits. Don't see any of the other girls getting through, but suspect Jasmine may have the best chance.

Isn't Anna Fitzy at university at the moment and concentrating more on that ?

And Georgia too has just started a pretty high-powered course at Warwick - I doubt she's got as much time for her tennis as she'd like,

A nice 4-pointer match between Katy and Izzy. Anna S stands a good chance. Good luck to Jasmine too - maybe . . .

Since it doesn't appear to have been covered in detail:

R1:  (1) Lucy Brown & Anna Fitzpatrick CR 850 (428+422) vs BYE
R1:  Maia Lumsden & Isabelle Wallace UNR defeated Katharina Hering & Nora Niedmars (GER/GER) UNR by 0 & 3

R1:  Natalia Vajdova & Nikola Vajdova (SVK/SVK) CR 2242 (according to the ITF draw sheet.  However, while Natalia has a current doubles ranking of 1093, Nikola has none, so technically, they should be UNR!  Doesn't invalidate the victory, though, sadly. cry ) defeated Dominique Covington & Nicole Peterson UNR by 2 & 4

R1:  BYE vs (2) Jos Rae & Anna Smith CR748 (486+262)

Usually good value on Twitter ... and confirms what CD said.

Georgia: "Most people get homesick at uni...I'm tennis sick #wannaplay247" "Annoying when you lose 5 and 6 knowing you've trained about 5 days in the last 6 weeks" "Annoying when you lose 5 and 6 knowing you've trained about 5 days in the last 6 weeks" "#annoyed"

Katy: "Gutted my opponent pulled out today was playing well! :/ #wantedtobeatherproperly !!"
