RE: Week 45 - Challenger ($50,000) - Knoxville, TN, USA (hard)

Seems to be all over the Russell serve right now. That is the third break for Ed in this set.

Ed much more aggressive in that second set and we even saw some forehand winners.

Russell has had the trainer on between games - not sure what for though.

Come on Ed. Let's have a nice fast start to the decider. Get on top of him early and keep him down.

Two consecutive Df's did it and his first serve went missing after that.

Ed 3-0* down now.

He was 40-15 up and lost his serve and then had Russell 0-30 but couldn't break. On such fine margins are these matches decided.

Russell stepped up his game and Ed dropped his levels in the final set. Far too many errors from Ed.

Good week though.

L16: (Alt) Ed Corrie WR 329 lost to (4) Michael Russell (USA) WR 76 (CH 60 in 2007) by 6-4 2-6 6-1
L16: (Alt) Dave Rice WR 349 lost to Peter Polansky (CAN) WR 150 (CH 149 in Sep) by 4 & 4

Given who they were playing (i.e. last week's finalists, with Polansky having won his previous Challenger as well), those look like respectable scorelines.

Yes, was a big ask and these look like decent performances.

Just noticed that Sanam Singh, who beat George and Josh in qualifying, has gone on to make the QFs of the main draw without coming close to dropping a set, thrashing Donald Young 0 & 3 yesterday. That clearly wasn't a good qualifying section to be in!
