Agh! Not to be. Dave had a break point at 40-30 and had a chance to convert but hit a short forehand into the net. He then saved a match point with some great play and a finish at the net but in the end Polansky comes through. 4-6 4-6
I thought he played well though. He served well and was going after his shots, which people commented he wasn't doing enough earlier in the year. He just made a few too many errors (quite a few by small margins), Polansky on the other hand didn't give very much away at all.

As well as being defending champ here, Russell beat Polansky in the Charlottesville Final last week (not bad for a 35-year-old!), so it isn't an exaggeration to say the Brits are facing the two most in-form players in the tournament today.
L16: (Alt) Ed Corrie WR 329 v (4) Michael Russell (USA) WR 76 (CH 60 in 2007)
L16: (Alt) Dave Rice WR 349 v Peter Polansky (CAN) WR 150 (CH 149 in Sep) - H2H 0-1, 3 & 1, Rimouski Ch 2011

I'd love to know what's the record for being inside the top 100 for most weeks, without ever being top 50. I did a manual count and found that Russell has been ranked 100 or better for a combined total of 237 weeks.
First time I've seen Ed since he won the 10K at Wirral. It looks like he has added a bit of pace to his serve, but the rest of his game is very similar. Long rallies, reliant on the backhand slice and waiting for his opponent to make mistakes.
Still needs a big weapon, but I cannot see getting anywhere above a ranking of 250 without this.
