RE: Week 44 - Great Britain F23 ($10,000) - Edgbaston (hard)

Just seen rd 3 in qualifying and the top match up seems to be Evan v Harry Meehan.

Just shows how strong qualifying is this week.

Wins so far for Tom F by 0&3, for Clay Crawford by 4&2, by Simon Dickson by 2-6 6-1 6-2 but not so good for Peter Ashley who went out to Rosenzweig by 1&1

Wins too for Adam TB, Harry Skinner and Tom Allen.

Just the Evan Hoyt v Harry Meehan result not in so far.

As for Marcus, the fact that 7 of these 10 pro titles this year are 10K futures doubles titles, puts much more context on their relevance to his future singles career.

These titles are certainly still worthy of note in their context, and Marcus has had a great year.

He has risen so much in a relatively short time with the great support that he has had, that especially with that support ongoing, it is reasonable to expect much more to come.

We will begin to learn much more when he steps up to challenger level.

Yes I agree Indy. I have seen Marcus play and he has the weapons to get much higher in the rankings.

I worry about players picking up loads of British Futures points. Reason being most of the players know one another and their games.

Ed corrie was King of Futures earlier this year and he has not progressed to Challenger level.

Farquharson and Hewitt both did really well early in year and have stalled some what lately.

I think If Marcus is serious and wants it he could do a Dan Evans and progress but only if he wants it!

Surprised Liam Broady did not pair with J ward-Hibbert they would have been no1 seeds ?  Maybe LB wants  to conserve all his  energy & focus for a strong attempt at reaching the  final in last GB of the year

Unless players perform well in challengers, there is no reason to be excited. In fact I would be much more surprised or pleased if a GB player won one or two challengers without winning numerous futures titles.

Wild cards for Golding, Orton, Hutt and Claton. Morgan and O'Mara got in direct.

And how about this. Fitzy plays Burton in R1 with the winner possibly playing Willis in R2.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Especially with Gary at courtside. That could be interesting.

I'm sure Fitzy may have a point to prove.

There are a few tasty first round matches:

Willis v Carter
Golding v JWH
Tom F v Broady
Burton v Fitzy

i wouldn't be suprised if Evan turned over Marzi

I'll type up the whole draw (with the extra CH & H2H info I may need for Twitter) between 6 and 7 unless someone else has done it by then (a bit too busy with work right now!)

I have nothing against Gary or any of his players and I will always support them and celebrate their successes.

But this just has to be said.

GO FITZY

Predict a Goodall v Grigelius semi final in the bottom half and Carter v De Loore in the top half on the basis that Marcus wasn't well last week and ran out of gas and may still be struggling.
