Thanks to RJA, wolf and philwrig for the recent reports. I'm sorry if I've forgotten about anyone else, but if I have, a "thank you" to them, as well.

I know that we tennis tragics often grumble about the mainstream media not covering Futures, but why would I pay for news when I've got you guys?

RJA Did you watch the 1/4 F doubles ?

If you mean the quarter finals yesterday I only saw bits of Marcus and Lewis. If you mean the semi final today I saw most of the second set and the match tie break.

I agree with you that Marcus looks a little tired. Nothing too bad, just lacking in a little focus resulting in too many sloppy errors.

Marcus & Lewis arrived back in Beckenham tonight tired , but in good spirits

Tomorrow we will sit down and plan the rest of 2013

While the manner of the above suggestion may not wholly commend it, the substance has some merit. Would there be a case for having an A1 thread, in which comment around A1's strategy for Aegon Team Tennis, A1's opinions on the LTA, plans for tennis clubs, future targets for players etc could be posted, leaving more space for discussion of the actual tournament in tournament threads? It's clear that the A1 material is of interest to several members of this board - but equally that there are those who find it frustrating to have to read it while they're searching for other things relating to a tournament. Analysis of matches involving players (whether from A1 or not) could continue on the tournament threads.

Good idea - the weekly A1 academy thread ( topic) on what our players are doing will post that weekly instead then [...]

Edit: since we are now going to do this anyway (albeit not a separate A1 thread for each week), I've taken out the disparaging comments at the end of this post and also taken out the inevitable reply from someone who objected to those comments, just to avoid things kicking off again (yawn)      Steven

I'm sorry to say it, but I'm beyond caring any more - it's getting harder and harder to find information about matches that don't involve Marcus or Lewis (or A1 players) on GB threads, which has been a shame over the last couple of weeks as those 2 haven't actually won many matches since returning to the UK, so it would have been great to talk about other players a little more. Is there a place we can just talk about the tournaments without the discussion being dominated by the same subject week after week?

I have my hobby horses as much as the next person, but this has been death by Marcus and Lewis! wink

Hear, hear. With seemingly no end to the details of what bloody "Bomb" and sodding "Burts" had for tea last night, and what "Marzi" said to "The Vicar" about the latest developments at Downton Abbey - FFS, enough already!!!

Oof, how did that slip out? Contrary to all my libertarian principles.

Dude, here's a thought - what about separate threads for EACH TOURNAMENT in which your gang are playing; so that those who just want the usual stuff can find it easily, and those who aren't interested in your observations on life can easily avoid them?

Funnily enough, some of the moderators have been trying to work out the best solution to this too and we also decided that a dedicated A1 thread would be the best way to go, but a single one, not split by week and not split by tournament - no doubt the extra A1 thread for each tournament suggestion was just Ratty being sarcastic!

In fact, I agreed with the other mods in the discussion that I would set the thread up earlier this week but this week has been incredibly busy (I've only just finished Thursday's work at 7.50 am on Friday morning ) so I haven't got around to working out how to introduce it and express some ground rules in the first post. The fact that there seems be more general consensus about it being a good idea makes that easier, so I will set it up this morning, hopefully before I fall asleep!

James' semi is underway - the Grig is going to be a difficult challenge . . .

The scoreboard's been hung for the last 15 mins at match point to Grigelis so I'm guessing he won the second set 7-5

and as I write this, it's confirmed !

Looks like James put up a decent fight against the VERY in form Grigelis but eventually went down 6-3 7-5

Another very positive week though for James. Hope he can build on it.

Yes, good week for James. I had been rather surprised that the seeming steady progression for James went into reverse this year.

James must have one of the most lop-sided points sheet of any player.

In 2013, he has 18 points for a 10k win and then nothing else apart from a handful of 2 pointer quarter finals.

The two 6 pointer semis from the last 2 weeks will be a big step to evening in it up a bit and, yep, hopefully a sign that things are moving in the right direction.

I remember someone (RJA ?) saying this summer that James was having certain family problems so maybe things are more sorted now and his tennis can benefit.
