I think Marcus deserves some rest. I'll not reiterate some things that I've said over and over again, but it's obvious that Marcus has never played so much tennis in a year, so he needs a break more than anything else.
Congratulations to Fitzy and I'm impressed with how seamlessly he has rejoined the circuit.
Mr Lewis, since there's no real reason for anyone to criticise Mr Willis or make the comments they did, I suspect either you were speaking to people who wanted something for their own players (as per CD's comments) or perhaps even someone who was just trying to wind you up. I hope that you don't feel that you and Mr Willis have to prove anything to anyone; he's done incredibly well this year, and the signs are good for the future (after a well-deserved rest). It's good to see someone who clearly had such talent but hadn't been able to maximise it doing well.
Interesting doubles SFs. Mr Bambridge has generally seemed to perform better in doubles than in singles, and Mr Morgan clearly is a fine doubles player: would love to see them win their SF.

Yes, Marcus has had a very good year with all the support of Gary. It has certainly been working well.
I do worry a little if Gary being quite so bigh profile such as on here, and particularly commenting on other players ( and then maybe because of this getting feedback like he got yesterday ), is entirely helpful for Marcus's focus. Still, generally quite entertaining and interesting for us.
I am trying to explain
1) we are on track - alot people do not fully appreciate the progress
Thats Been made
2) my sensitivity to negative comments has been a life long source of personal energy to prove people wrong

I met up with Marcus's sport Pyschologist last night for a mixed doubs at Queens after rushing back from the F23 . Marcus is giving me some lessons & the drop shot - Lob combo was working a treat last night on the indoor clay .
We discussed Marcus in depth and the professor gave some very useful advice & we are both confident that can build on progress made this year It's all about staying positive and keeping out of the comfort zone

Thanks spectator I just trying to explain that sensitivity to criticism can be used by us constructively .
I need to create new ranking targets for end of may 2014 & end of year 2014 what do the regular posters think would be a significant achievement for Marcus in terms of singles & doubles rankings ?

Klein probably has a higher ceiling than most of the other British players, so he's certainly capable of making a late surge.
If you had told either Marcus or myself we would be 350 world we would have thought you were a bit crazy ! Our First annual target set exactly a year ago was GB top 25 & 31 points
GB top 10 was our 2014 target
GB top 5 & world top 250 2015.
GB no2/3 world top 100 2016 or 2017
I think that Marcus can be top
100 singles by age of 27 .

If you set Marcus a points total, he will reach it easier by playing futures, especially if you pick them carefully. He could get a Wimbledon Wild Card on the ranking, and get whalloped.
If Marcus was to play harder fought events, he may not get the points as easy, but will no doubt become a better player.
What is the overall goal for Marcus? If it is to play on the main tour then, developing him as a player should be most important, even if his ranking lags a little due to the learning. To be a main tour player for example, I am sure his game would benefit from a spell on clay..........but that may not yeild as many points as tournaments on other surfaces.
6 and 12 month ranking totals are important, but should only be a part of his approach I would have thought? Goalsetting is easy Gary as I know you know........Dream forwards then plan backwards. If he's going to crack the top 100 within 3 years (possible????) then I would use the rest and training periods wisely, choose the tournaments that develop his game.......a mix of indoor and out..........fast and slow.......futures, challengers even ATP qualies. If all of this is done then I wouldn't give a stuff where his ranking is in May as long as you both felt that he was improving at the pace to hit that longer term goal.
But thats just my opinion, and I'm not paying the bills................but you did ask!
Thats what the forums for right - heathy debate and support of GB ATP /WTA tennis players .
Sadly it is about money WC wimbie singles £25k and there is a huge golden nugget of GB men's players at the moment that I know could benefit from our blue print this year . We got the players we need the team spirit , organisation and leadership of the top 25 to get the best for GB tennis and the players sad thing is that I know i could do a better job with 50% of aegons funding
Shhh that was an excellent post and some useful points that will incorporate into our overall plan . Your of course your absolutely right if Money was no object .
The forum has certainly been a lot more constructive this week and I hope that time spent with the other ATP players means that soon we will see the A1 ATP tennis academy . I have got the lease on a run down club but the local LTA not playing ball . Willing to contribute 50% to making it a performance centre but can't even get 50% of the cost of a 4th hard court Even though made the club free for children and give free coaching .

If my Guys play like did yesterday could be getting the train back instead of driving back with me on Friday !
Young bothwell was the sharper of the 2 juniors in the QF if they learnt to calm down they could have won the match but they were playing like the were both on speed .
Stoute double faulted 4 times in 1 of his crucial service games .

Tom F is a set and a double break down at 4-6 0-3*
Going to be long way back from here.
What about George morgan & co in the doubles ?
Live scores showing that they haven't started yet. Probably because Rosenholm had a singles this morning that went to 3 sets (lost to De Loore) and so they are giving him "sufficient rest".
B & B won the first set 6-2 but Jonny and Scott are about to serve for the 2nd set at *5-3
Tom F got bagelled in the 2nd set so only Marzi through for Team GB in the singles.
Edit
B & B v Jonny/Scott goes to an MTB

Marcus and Lewis save the first two but the young guns serve it out for 10-8
Bomb said 1 bad game in 2nd set
But had bad line call to break back .
I need my team to be that prepared in a futures to be that superior ( particulary in the absence of rice & Thornley ) that being on wrong side of a couple of line calls is totally irrelevant not excepting any excuses Because I witnessed yesterday's 1/4 final and were poor .
Doubles Marcus & Lewis :
11 tournaments 5 titles 1 RU 3SF
So still very much on course for a wimbie WC in the 2nd but its like in business once you become successful you become an inspiration to others .
Good news Marcus will have a new PB doubles ranking when he's likely to climb above my doubles hero Jonas Bjorkman
