The latest GB year to date ranking points, highlighting in particular the "battle" for the year end 5th place.
4. Dan C - 186 ranking points from 18 counters
5. Ed - 126 from 16 6. Dave - 120 from 18 7. Marcus - 117 from 18 ( 119 from 20 ) 8. Kyle - 110 from 14
9. Ashley - 94 from 14
This includes Dave's 5 points for challenger qualifying this week. Marcus currently adds for any score in excess of 1, so will draw level with Ed if he reaches the final here, earning 10 points, i.e. a net 9.
KE projected ranking 110/14 x18 = 118 same as MW
In other words really nothing in it between DR , KE & MW .

How did you work that one out?
110/14 works out at an average 7.86 points per tournament. Multiplied by 18 gives you roughly 141 points. Nowhere near 118.
Sorry your right which shoes that KE latest points tally is likely to around that figure if playing sufficient tournaments .
But I am I right he has glandular fever at the moment ?
I most certainly hope you are wrong - this illness seems to be unbelievably prevalent amongst tennis pros, given all their travel. Impact ranges from feeling rough for a couple of weeks then back to normal for good to never recovering at all and having to give up on tennis as a career. So I really do hope you are wrong.

Well, if you WERE right, A1, that would explain a lot . .. (but so would other explanations too, of course).
Leaving Kyle aside, it's true, K, that it does seem remarkably prevalent. Does anyone follow youth players in any other sport ? Is there a really high rate of glandular fever in young athletes/swimmers/basketball players/footballers/whatever ?
Very disappointing to see just 3 GB players in the QF. Fitzy who isn't going to play regularly on tour and Marzi and Tom F who have been out of form for a while.
Not convinced any will get through.
In fairness if you went by seedings there should have been 4 brits and 4 non brits so 3 is hardly a huge underachievement. Personally I prefer to see reasonably strong draws like we have had this week. Tournaments like we had earlier in the year where our guys win pretty much every point look nice on paper but don't really prove much.
I have been at Edgbaston for the last two days and time permitting will add some detailed comments later on.

Not in cricket. I can't remember any cricketer, young or old, who was diagnosed with glandular fever in the recent past. There might be one or two, but surely not even 5% of the no. of people in tennis.
Edit: apart from James Faulkner, I guess.

Yes they don't work hard enough !
A lot of flights & different time zones and over training are all risk factors

Yes, just been reading up on it (another way to put off the work I'm supposed to be doing) and it specifically says that travel/flights/time zones are a risk factor and that the only other athletes (apart from tennis players) that do the same are golfers and motor racing guys who, it says, have nothing like the same arduous training schedule and so their bodies are not 'stressed' in the same way. Not sure that's the whole picture but it's interesting . . .
I see that George is being given a bit of a tennis lesson by Grigelis (two breaks up) and that, despite the best efforts of the LTA/ATP/ITF Adam TB hasn't snuck in unnoticed to carry on his 'run' but Mr. Crepaldi has turned up and hopefully restored administrative order.
