So Mel and Nik Slater not playing together ???? Have they 'broken up' ?

Hmm, looks a bit worrying. I was hoping that Mel and Nik would stick with it into next year.

I guess could be just some one-off sort of agreement here...

Only two points into the game and the Czech girl has already spent five minutes arguing with the umpire about something (no idea what).

1-0* to Naomi

edit: just watched Naomi hold to love with four aces/unreturnable serves - smile

You can watch it live on the LTA site.

Naomi should have put distance between them in this second set, but after missing break points has just been broken.

Naomi is her own worst enemy sometimes. Plays well to recover the break, throws in some errors to hand it back

4-5*

Into a third. 62 46 *00

L32: (WC) Naomi Broady WR 268 beat Renata Voracova (CZE) WR 193 (CH 74 in 2010) by 6-2 4-6 6-2 biggrin

The fact that Naomi only took 3 games off Voracova in Grenoble in February must make that an even more satisfying win

L16: (WC) Naomi Broady WR 268 v Stephanie Vogt (LIE) WR 143 (CH 140 2 weeks ago)

H2H 1-0 - then-qualifier Naomi upset then-7th seed Vogt 7-5 in the 3rd at Edgbaston 25K in April - she needs to repeat that trick to match last year's run to the QFs.

Well, Naomi wins the first set 6-2, and quite deservedly so. Considering she lost to her this year, only winning three games, no wonder the Czech girl looks a bit shell-shocked !

Can Naomi keep it up? She has a habit of blasting first set as her opponents cannot cope with the serve. Second sets are always close and Naomi can fade. Heres hoping for better today.
