I guess Hev's retirement from the singles means that she & JoKo will give Olaru & Paszek a walkover into the doubles final, which means Naomi's now our only standard-bearer.
I sincerely hope that Ms Watson gets some rest ... and is encouraged by how well she was doing before she became ill. Also that the illness is over quickly ... and that it's the last of its ilk for some time!
Oh, and while we're at it ... that Ms Konta wins the singles, and Ms Broady the doubles.
Doesn't sound connected. The fact that she was "doubled over" the other day seems to point to a more general illness / bug, which hopefully she is over soon. All the best to her.

Conceivably not: the match against the top seeds is on tomorrow's OoP, so perhaps that's an indication that it's some kind of 24-hour bug. I did wonder whether their doubles match yesterday evening might have taken too much out of her, but she herself must know what she's capable of doing at this stage in her recovery.
Final match of the day was the highly anticipated all-British encounter between Jo Konta and Heather Watson. A packed audience saw Konta race into a 4-0 lead, only for Watson to unfortunately have to retire feeling unwell.
[...] the doubles semi-final's [sic] including Naomi Broady partnering [Krystina] Pliskova, and Jo Konta and Heather Watson partnering each other against 2nd seeds Raluca Olaru & Tamira Paszek.
Dodgy English aside, sounds promising.

Now *4-5 and a DF to start the next game. We see this quite a lot from Jo. She has played beautifully for a set and a half, but a few basic errors have crept in and she is hitting her groundstrokes shorter and shorter as the finish line approaches. Her opponent appears to be encouraged by this and has raised her game. Is this just nerves from Jo?
Edit: But a terrific hold stops the rot. Very well played actually.
