RE: Week 44 - ITF ($75K) - Barnstaple, UK Hard

Tom - Naomi is not at Loughborough and did enter Manchester, but has withdrawn.

She said she was exhausted after Nigeria and has played Barnstaple with absolutely no break so I bet she does need a bit of a rest.

QF: (1) Eva Birnerova & Renata Voracova (CZE/CZE) CR 179 (96+83) defeated (WC) Jocelyn Rae & Anna Smith CR 880 (598+284) by 1 & 4

The top seeds served for the match at 5-0 in the second...

Ah pity Joss and Anna couldn't have taken another game and got the second set back to 5-5. That might have got the top seeds a tad worried after evidently crusing !

I think this match will either be epic or a complete hot mess. Or maybe it will be an epic hot mess.

World No 171 Marta Sirotkina just beat Alison Riske, so a great opportunity for either Hev or JoKo to make the final tomorrow.

Well, if heather is as tired as she looks (after one game), I think that this match will be VERY quick . . .

Well, now we can all have a pit-stop - Annika wins 6-4 6-3,

Good match from Naomi - she forced Beck to play well.

yup annikas not WR53 for nowt

naomi was competitive considring the gap and beck is one of the few players still on tour to spot a natural lob oppurtunity and be able to exicute it (aga is another) which caught naomi out several times today when most players will just try to pass and often titen up because a player at net is so unusual these days

wonder if thats naomi done for the year in singles or will she pop up in the sharm/dubai 75s or somewhere else before a rest. not sure she ahs too much too gain from the upcoming gb 10ks but she might still do one

Naomi is in the main draw for Zawada (Poland) 25K which is in Week 46. She entered Sharm El Sheikh in Week 47 but as a Main Draw Only and is so far down the entry list (currently just outside qualifying) that she has almost no chance of making the main draw.

That 75k is on clay as well is it not, so it would have been an odd scheduling choice.

Hev looks absolutely spent.

Well that was an anti-climax, feel a bit sorry for the crowd which looks to be of a decent size again for this level.

Nice hug between the two, hope Heather is ok. Just needs a few days sleep I think. She's done a lot of travelling as well as the physical and mental exhaustion.

oh just got home hoping to catch some of Jo/Hev.
What a shame for Hev - hope it is just tiredness and nothing worse.
Good luck to Jo in the next round!

Well that's a shame in more ways than one, but at least Hev retiring means JoKo goes through without expending much energy and she will have a good chance tomorrow. JoKo looked to be playing pretty well too albeit against an unwell/injured Hev.

Heather should be fine, it certainly didn't look like a major problem and she will have a couple of weeks off now anyway.

With a bit of luck this will mean JoKo will be in the Australian Open main draw.

Disappointing & a great shame. cry  Hope she's feeling perkier soon.

SF:  (4) Joanna Konta WR 115 vs Marta Sirotkina (RUS) WR 171

The Russia's dumped out Majeric (5) & Riske (2) in straight sets on her way to the semi, so is not to be underestimated.
