And on cue Beck hits three nasty UEs - gives Naomi a chance . . .

and Naomi holds to love 4*-3 to Annika.

Indy, I agree, Beck doesn't have Laura's excitement factor - serve and BH are quite ordinary, brilliant court coverage though and some cracking FHs.

The Heather v Jo stream has just started with Jo breaking Heather's service in the 1st game.

Beck breaks back partly thanks to an extremely lucky net cord on BP which falls, dead, over onto Naomi's side.

beck wins the first set 6-4 which is a fair score (her FH is causing some major damage but Naomi is just about holding her own).

The games and even the rallies are quite close but Beck is just too good 4*-1

That's very encouraging from Naomi. Beck doesn't excite me to the extent Laura does ( even taking out patriotism ) as to her ultimate possibilities, but she is a very solid player.

Well, was a bit more encouraging before CD's latest post. Whatever, it has still been another good week for Naomi.

Well, now we can all have a pit-stop - Annika wins 6-4 6-3,

Good match from Naomi - she forced Beck to play well.

yup annikas not WR53 for nowt

naomi was competitive considring the gap and beck is one of the few players still on tour to spot a natural lob oppurtunity and be able to exicute it (aga is another) which caught naomi out several times today when most players will just try to pass and often titen up because a player at net is so unusual these days

wonder if thats naomi done for the year in singles or will she pop up in the sharm/dubai 75s or somewhere else before a rest. not sure she ahs too much too gain from the upcoming gb 10ks but she might still do one

Any predictions for the big JoKo v Heather match later today?

I will go for Hev to win in 3, with JoKo taking the 2nd set (something like 6-2 4-6 6-3 to Hev).

In terms of who I want to win my order of preference would be:
1. Hev to win and go on and make the final
2. JoKo to win and go on to make the final
3. JoKo to win but go out next round
4. Hev to win and go out next round

That makes things... not at all clear, so may the best girl win!
