For the second week in a row, 17 year-old Chris wins his first found in qualies no trouble. And for the second week he then comes up against one of the top three seeds, this time the WR 381 !

Can be soo annoying to meet such a highly ranked player, who for whatever reason apparently didn't enter in time.

Basically, that's probably about it for anyone in Giner's section of the qualifying draw.

R1 : Matt Short WR 872 v (q) Antonio Campo (ITA) WR 1179

If he wins this, he'll most likely play the number 2 seed.

Campo is at a new career high today after winning R1 in Palermo 2 weeks ago but he lost to another Brit, Aswin Lizen, in qualifying last week.

Didn't Matt make a habit of this a couple of months ago ? Have I got the right guy ? Pretty sure it was him that always seemed to lose the first set, no contest, and then somehow wake up and start playing and (hopefully!) manage to come home in the third . . .

Looking quite promising:  Matt serving for the third set at 5-1.

L16: Matt Short WR 872 v (Q) Davide Melchiorre (ITA) WR 1264 (CH 1246 in Sep)

Melchiorre upset the 2nd seed today, a result that seems to have come from nowhere. Hopefully it means it was just a very bad day for the 2nd seed and Matt has a chance.
