RE: Week 44 - Challenger ($50,000) - Seoul, Korea Rep. (Hard)

excellent hitting and big returns  takes Kim 15-40 .  Dan pauses, changes raket and wins the next 4 points

Dan seals it 5-1 in the 3rd.  I didn't see a great deal of the match, but Dan looked ok.  Kim seemed rather good to be unranked, he just needs to reduce the error count slighlty - has has a great forehand.     I think the extra time on court will have been good for Dan.

Off to work!

From Alex's page

Lost 1st round in Seoul to Wang 62 64. Frustrating match, hurt my foot pretty early on and struggled with it throughout the match. Sorting out the problem to be ready for next week. Tournament is in the olympic park where the games were held in 88, pretty cool!

I've just noticed that Lu Yen-Hsun has TWENTY Challenger titles. Unfortunately he won't be adding to it any time soon, thanks to a first round loss here and a withdrawal from next week's tournament.

But he's never reached an ATP semi, I believe.

Now I didn't know that, either! Impressive feat for someone with a CH of 33 and so much experience.

On a less civilised tennis forum he would be denounced as a vulture.

3.30-4 am ... so too many coffees rather than beers required tonight!

Not to be for Dan 7-6(2) 3-6 0-6 cry

Ragged performance. Good in patches early on but just way way too many unforced errors particularly off the forehand side. Didn't serve as well as he could and didn't move as well as he can. I think he mentioned something about feeling heavy at one point.

He started well, won the first 3 games then lost the next two with a sloppy return game and a sloppy service game, broke again and held for 5-2. Then served for it at 5-3 and got broken, Zhang did well here but Evo perhaps could have done better. Then went on to win the tiebreak comfortably.

Zhang grew into the match and played more confidently whereas as Dan became more ragged and error prone. It just got away from him at the end there. A shame, definitely signs in the match that were he at his best he could have won it fairly comfortably. But not today..

Evo won the first set 7-6(2) It could have been much more comfortable though. Currently *0-3 down in the second set.

Lost the second set 6-3 - not a good last game there.
