Week 44 - Challenger ($50,000) - Seoul, Korea Rep. (Hard)

Evo should be in the main draw.

QR1: Richard Gabb WR 410 v (wc) Chung Hong (KOR) WR 1410 (CH 674 in 2012)
QR1: (q4) Alex Ward WR 341 v Wang Chieh-Fu (TPE) WR 947 (CH 744 in 2012)

No sign of Oli then. Hardly a surprise post-hernia op. It takes time to feel confident again (given my own experience) to do anything at 100% without being mindful about the affected area or in some way "protecting" it. In theory he should be absolutely fine, in practice it still hurts!

I had forgotten about Kim Cheong-Eui. The guy was actually ranked when he was 14 years and 6 months old, and not even Gasquet or Nadal can claim that.

Agreed. No surprise at all.  As I posted in another thread, with Oli down to play some 10k futures in Greece starting Week 45, it would be almost madness to fly out to Seoul just for 1 week.  And given his recent operation, coming back in at a 10k level is eminently more sensible.

Oli was entered for a few of the far east challengers, but i guess he has not travelled out. As Bob says better to start by playing futures.

Always presuming Oli is not going to pop up with a MD WC !

But, yes, it is rather more likely that he hasn't travelled.

can't find any results, but from sundays oop looks like A-Ward lost, Ashley Hewitt was still playing when the draw was made, and Richard Gabb won (I assume it was a standard double bagelling jobby) and will play the 8th seed Jung in round two.

The Charlottesville qualies draw is up, too. Hopefully someone who has the patience to dig up the rankings will make a thread.

And Dan Evans is seeded 7th in the main draw, in the same quarter as the third seed Blaz Kavcic (107).

No wonder they couldn't be bothered to wait for Ashley's match to finish before they did tomorrow's OoP:

QR1: (q6) Ashley Hewitt WR 355 beat Kim Cheong-Eui (KOR) WR 551 (CH 530 in Aug) by 7-6(4) 6-7(11) 6-4
QR1: Richard Gabb WR 410 beat (wc) Chung Hong (KOR) WR 1410 (CH 674 in 2012) by 3-6 6-1 6-4
QR1: (q4) Alex Ward WR 341 lost to Wang Chieh-Fu (TPE) WR 947 (CH 744 in 2012) by 2 & 4 bleh

QR2: (q6) Ashley Hewitt WR 355 v Na Jung-Woong (KOR) WR 431 (CH 404 in Sep)
QR2: Richard Gabb WR 410 v (q8) Jason Jung (USA) WR 398 (CH 393 in Sep)

L32: (7) Dan Evans WR 151 v (WC) Kim Young Seok (KOR) UNR (junior no. 36, CH 25 in Jun)

Kim lost 4 & 3 to Kyle Edmund in Wimbledon juniors, beat Jonny O'Mara in 3 at US Open juniors and has lost to Luke Bambridge twice this year.

Well, they certainly didn't do that the easy way - and Alex didn't manage to do it at all :(

I guess it's not easy to find your feet and adjust.

But with two more matches to go before you even get a measly three points, it's going to be tricky . . .

Nice draw for Dan and a good chance to get a couple wins under his belt after the disappointing trip to California.

Poor result for Alex and it really is starting to look like he won't end up with as much to show for this season as many of his results would suggest and he could even end the year ranked in a similar place to where he started it.

Care to elaborate because I don't see how the tweet indicates confusion on their part.
