Of course, more tournaments (particularly Futures) will be added there, but one thing worth noting is that the minimum prize money for a Challenger is now 40K+H, instead of the earlier 35K+H.

I am pleased for the players that the minimum prize money will go up at challenger level but a similar increase is so overdue at futures level. Surely a 20% rise (to 12k & 18k) is possible?
Since many nations have experienced more than 50% inflation in the last 15 years (not Britain, of course), that must have hit the players very hard, particularly many players in Asia who don't have too many home Futures.
Of course, no one cares about the Futures tour and the top players are more interested in cutting a deal for a shorter season so that they can play half a dozen pointless exhos in November and December.

I fear the last bit is all too true.
One difference between 1998 and 2013 is the number of Futures events:
1998: 208 - 115 at 10K level and 93 at 15K level
2013: 593 - 432 at 10K level and 161 at 15K level
I was going to ask what people think they would prefer - more Futures with the same prize money or less Futures with more prize money for each one ... but then I realised that there were Satellites too until the mid '00s, so the increase in the number of events available can't be nearly as spectacular as it first appears.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
I did a quick check and there were about 50 Satellite tournaments in 1998, so the equivalent of 200 tournaments. A dig through an old Pro Circuit rulebook tells me that the Satellites could have awarded 25K, 50K or 75K in prize money for the 4 weeks combined, and a minimum of $6.25K/week.
For people who didn't follow non-Tour tennis back then, Satellite tournaments were 4 week long mega-tournaments held in a country or a geographical region (like the Caribbean etc.) that comprised of three 32 draw tournaments, and a Masters tournament where the top 24 players (from the first three weeks) played. They were abandoned in 2006 because by then international travel had become much easier/cheaper, I guess.
I see the schedule for the Manchester tournament has been worked around the football. As Man City are at home on the sunday, qualifying starts on the monday with a Sunday final.
That sort of messes up my schedule as i would have gone Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday.
Now it looks like i will go Wednesday, Sat & Sun (assuming there are some GB girls playing at the weekend)
