Week 43 - Great Britain F22 ($10,000) - Tipton (Hard)

0-3 down in the final set Marcus started tanking gutted ! & left the arena .

Thank you for being so honest - perhaps even brutally so. I'm sure you would agree that talent gets you so far in tennis - physical excellence and mental strength are the things that the very best players have. I'm sure Marcus was feeling below par today and perhaps George has come back refreshed from his enforced break, but it's very discouraging (and perhaps a little surprising given how far Marcus seems to have come this year) to hear about a reaction like that. [9 games lost in a row; 15 points lost in a row at one point]. I wasn't expecting it at all.

Very excited by some of the comments about Mr Paris - hope he completes the job today.

Maybe it's time for a rest bomb  played 26 tournaments 72 futures matches this year his body is probably in a state of shell shock  . It's time to take stock of the situation regroup There is  always a silver lining in every cloud .

I am only looking at this from afar and you will have a far better insight into Marcus' mood/situation/fitness right now, but this seems like a very sensible option to me. I mentioned somewhere else that 3 weeks in the heat of Kuwait, playing singles and doubles would sap the energy from anybody and was always going to be difficult to recover from.

But Marcus needs to remember this.  Regardless of the last two weeks, even if he hangs his racket up now for the season, and rests before heading for pre-season training, he has had a fantastic year. He has given himself a fabulous platform to build on for next year as he migrates into the world of Challengers, where his talent suggests that he could see further success in the future.

James Marsalek ( Marzi ) ranked world no638 plays Qualifier Joshua Paris no1786

Can joshua cause another upset ?  . It will be an interesting match but I am expecting Marzi to edge it Purely on basis that

Lightening unlikely to strike in the same place 2 days in a row

To be fair, though, A1, you have chosen the favourite (ranking-wise) in each match !

Don't think there's much disagreement, though, but I think the Swede might stand a good chance against Griekspoor and I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Paris beat James (although it's great that James is finding some form again).

Good luck to Marcus and your other lads.

To honest I have gone on what I witnessed yesterday rather than rankings

Stuck out my neck on Marzi I think his experience might count.

well, to be fair to you, rankings aren't for nothing - they do reflect (by and large) the level so if, yesterday, the higher ranked players played better then that's only to be expected.

Josh P has won the first set 6-3.

And George Morgan has taken the first set off Marcus 6-4.

(Marcus not feeling great, apparently, but still a bit of a surprise - has he got some aspirins in that tennis bag ?)
