It's hot in Melbourne. The MERCURY is rising as Wardy takes on VENUS. Those of us on the opposite side of planet EARTH have no live stream to watch, which rather MARS the occasion.  So here I am SAT URNestly studying the stats ...........

OK. I'll stop there.

Wardy serving at *3-4

Thought I was bad for punning until I read this! smile

Reading through this thread from the start of the match it seemed like it was heading to another underwhelming defeat. Good battling comeback and some good points picked up this week after a few struggles since the USO. Good stuff.

So another bumpy ride and you'd think that he needs to lift his game to have a chance against Ebden. But a win is a win and Wardy is now up to 166ish in the rankings

Welldone on traversing the' bumpy ride'. Sometimes the player eyes the upcoming challenge and stumbles on the easier bumps.

Its good to see him getting some wins under his belt again.  He has won three semifinals this year and lost none....

Looking at his points tally, I see that 82% of his points have come from just six tournaments.  A bit more consistency would really help his ranking.

Well, the money isn't an issue here. Any good Futures player would have qualified in Traralgon and bagged $520 for the effort.

I guess it's difficult to make plans for going to Korea, and then suddenly decide that you're going to Victoria instead!

Edit: Although, you'd still have to go back to Korea for the next tournament, so maybe not that good an idea purely on financial terms.  wink

At least James got the win. Ultimately that's all that matters.

I didn't see the match, but was "watching" on livescores waiting to take my daughter to a 2.30am drop off for a week long "latin study" trip to Rome and Naples. Ice cream and pizza study more likely. What was noteworthy was James' 8 unconverted BPs in set 1, followed by 2 more in set 2, before he finally broke through on his 11th BP!! He got to BP in 5 (yes 5) separate games without success, which tells you a lot about how comfortable he was on return, yet couldn't convert the points that mattered. If he was "waiting for mistakes" again, a resounding "grr". In other matches he might create 3 BPs in the entire match, so he has to show real intent at those clutch moments.

But he lives to fight another day - Ebdon is boringly solid - he'll never blow you away, but he also doesn't give matches away. James at his best would probably win, but which James will appear?

Wow. It worked. MAybe if I had gone to bed earlier, he would have won in straight sets.

Congrats to Wardy though. A decent points haul too.

Look at how weak the Traralgon qualies draw is! I know that it's very difficult to change your travel plans at the drop of a hat, but I wish some of our boys had tried this one out.

Changing travel plans is easy, you just need very deep pockets.....I bet there'd be no change from a couple of £k for suitable flights....

Repeat of first set. 4-0 Ebden and game over.

Had four break-back points but Ebden saves all of them. 5-0*.

Ebden wins 6-0, 5-7, 6-0. Very odd scoreline. One good set sandwiched by two utterly woeful ones.

Really disappointing to go out in that manner but a good week nonetheless and some decent points picked up. Onwards and upwards.

Just 6 minutes left. Hopefully BiS is nicely tucked in his cosy bed.

Come on, Dino!
