Week 43 - Challenger ($50,000) - Melbourne, Australia (Hard)

Match report and Wardy's comments on his match with Whittington. An ugly win he calls it.

I like that he's described as a "British raider" Haha smile

It's hot in Melbourne. The MERCURY is rising as Wardy takes on VENUS. Those of us on the opposite side of planet EARTH have no live stream to watch, which rather MARS the occasion.  So here I am SAT URNestly studying the stats ...........

OK. I'll stop there.

Wardy serving at *3-4

Oh dear. Wardy has several game points for 4 all but eventually serves a DF on break point.

Venus serving for the set.

Wardy gets to 0-40 on the Venus serve but 5 points in a row for Venus sees him take the fist set 6-3.

Stand out statistic for the 1st set:

BPs taken

Venus 1/2
Ward 0/8

Ward loses the 1st set 3/6.
Ward had eight break points but didn't win any of them. Venus had two break points and took one.

Oh Wardy cry Had 3 break points: missed second serve return, backhand pass into the net,  forehand into the net. All gone.

Gunna have to do it the hard/long way. Again like yesterday he had looked comfortable until he didn't.

2-2

2 more BPs go begging and Wardy is now 0/10

If Wardy is going to win this, he is going to have to do it the hard way.

Venus breaks and leads *3-2

I am going to try a new tactic. Bed.

Hoping that when I wake up tomorrow, James has managed to turn this around.

Well done, Mr Ward. And well done, Bob, by Jupiter! U'r a nice guy, but we clearly need you to (nep) tune out on occasion, if our players are to do well.

And thanks, DWH, for the article. That's the problem with putting on these tournaments: foreigners come in and poach the points ...

More seriously, nice work by Mr Ward. Ebden is a step up, but as Korriban said earlier, if Mr Ward is on form, he can beat anyone in the field.
