Wasn't expecting that. Always thought Toby was very average when I've seen him, supremely disappointing to see Bambridge take a colossal stride backwards after yesterday's heroics.
Slightly suprised to see Toby win that match, but good to see progression.
I wonder why he was the only one of the Isreal contingent to withdraw from Edgbaston next week. I assume he cannot get a wildcard now.
Seems like this strategy was set in stone a long time ago. His withdrawal date for Egbaston was 8th Sept so it was probably never really within his plans.
At the moment I am not sure he has the game, quite apart from the confidence, to really make big progress.
Could be one of those who shows early promise, but then takes quite a bit longer to really find his way in the senior ranks, but really breaks through later. Hope so.

I saw Toby recently and, in my notebook (sad, get a life!) also jotted down : passable, average player.
But in the 'plus' bit I also noted : good physique, 'clean' game and good attitude.
And these things are key, in my opinion, for a guy to manage to make himself stand out a bit from the other 'average' players.
Attitude is obviously top. And, not only on court, but from all the social media sites of him and his team I get the impression that he's a hard-working, committed man who's also been inspired by the rise of his team mate Richard Gabb (also a grafter) and so rewards come to those who knuckle down.
Having a 'clean' game means he's got a good base to work from (unlike a guy who's the same rank but 100% serve and nothing else for instance) and a good physique (size and fitness) will allow him to have chances against more 'talented' players which otherwise he might not.
