Possibly a set too far after so many long matches, but a really good return to form in this tournament.
She has proved me wrong as I thought she would be better off calling it a day for this year after Osaka but this run will provide Hev with something positive to take into the close season.
Objective for Barnstaple will be to get DA for the Aussie Open
Pity about this match, but wonderful week for Ms Watson - great to see her stringing match wins together against good players. Upwards and onwards.
I hope she does equally well at Barnstaple, though feel somewhat conflicted about her getting MD acceptance at the AO. Still feel that being a high seed in the qualies could allow for more confidence boosting before she goes on to face the bigger opponents.
Caught bits of the match. First set Hev was quite passive, just trying to get the ball back in play, second sets went for her shots and made lots more winners.
Decent week, hopefully will be seeded at Barnstaple and can win a few more games.
Watched most of it. Heather doesn't look too far away from her pre-GF form. There were times she looked to be more aggressive but it's not just instinct that's an obstacle, it's the lack of power behind her shots. You could see today how the swede could unleash a backhand whenever the ball was short - it wasn't always a winner - but certainly tended to set one up. Hev doesn't have that weapon yet and she desperately needs it.
On the bright side, she looked fit and her serve was pretty good in parts.
