Hev must have only won a handful of points more than her opponents over three matches, but she seems to be back to her best in terms of fighting spirit and finding a way to win. The fact she has won so many close matches is a great sign in terms of her fitness, as in previous tournaments she has struggled in longer matches since her return from illness.
She must be feeling great after winning 3 matches in a row and she has a genuine shot at winning this event now. A key difference between a WTA event and a 100k (even with a strong field) is that the level of opponents doesn't really step up as you get to the later stages. On the other hand, Hev could easily play a WTA next year and face 3 easier opponents than the first 3 rounds here, so she has done great to get this far.
The fighting spirit is back, thats the key, this will ensure a quick rise back up the rankings. Better tennis should then result through improved confidence.
In 100k tournaments, a player gets another 34pts for winning her 1/4 finals but only another 30pts for winning her semi. Have I got that right
Yes, I think so.
I use steven's table and, yes, he has 36 points in total for losing in the QF, 70 points in total for losing in the SF and 100 points for a loss in the finals. (Another 40 points if you win i.e. 140 points for winning overall). So that's the same as you say, just put the other way round.
