There seemed little point in starting a new thread just to report this - & this one isn't especially apposite, either! - but news of a generous gesture on the part of our hero courtesy of the Beeb's rolling sports news:

Murray's ace idea to support refugees

Tennis

Andy Murray says he will donate £50 for every ace he hits from now until the end of the year to help the cause of refugees.

Murray, who is playing for Britain in this week's Davis Cup semi-finals against Australia in Glasgow, decided on the idea after seeing images of migrants coming to Europe on the news.

His donations will be matched by one of his sponsors, along with the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Lawn Tennis Association, making each ace worth £200.

"I felt I had to do something to help the millions of children and their families who have been forced to flee their homes'' Murray said.

"I'll get that little bit more satisfaction from each ace I hit.''

For a relatively young man he's pretty bloody impressive, the no bull**** attitude to his sport gives gestures like this a fidelity stamp.

Very good

Leaving aside his improved, but previously for so long pretty awful ( but to a little extent understandable ) presentation of himself in such as press conferences, there's so much about Andy that is impressive about his concerns and actions re others in tennis and outside.

I even respect, though disagree about his thoughts on Scottish independence, and there is nothing contrary about these and his pride at representing GB at the Olympics and in the Davis Cup. And indeed showing much more interest in other GB players than some other past well ranked British players He's a good egg.

Maybe Baron Andrew Barron Murray of Dunblane one day

I know it completely mucks up your play on words, Indy, but shouldn't that be Thane of Dunblane?  wink
