Fair amount of business travel to Europe over the past few years ... glad to put it to some more interesting use! Do think that the so-called London-Spezial is great news not only for tennis players but for anyone who needs to go to Germany for whatever reason. It's amazing value: www.bahn.com/i/view/GBR/en/prices/europe/london-spezial.shtml It actually often winds up being cheaper to go to Germany than to a primary Eurostar stop.
A very interesting article, summarising several major studies into the huge increase recently in average age for top tennis stars, and the effects this has on the whole game:
as Soto say, "Tennis Players: Make sure you are smart with your decisions in your 'apprentice years' (18-22). Currently 2 males under the age of 23 in the Worlds Top 100 #marathonnotasprint"
but, as the article points out, finances now are utterly critical as so few players can break even/make a profit early in their careers and they have to wait longer and longer . . .

Good article. I had read it earlier though and questioned the validity of some of the information. The two players that they claim are the ONLY ones under 23 and in the top 100 are Tomic and Vesely. I didn't do any real research, but a simple check on my favourite non GB player - Pablo Carreño Busta (how did you guess) - has him ranked at 61 and he is only 22 years old.
I don't know if there are any others in there, but I am sure that if there are, someone on here will post about it very soon.
Yes. From what I can tell, the figures from the actual surveys seem right but the '2 under 23' number just seems to from the conversation - can't see any official survey quoted for that. So I guess they just got it wrong !
And who could forget good ol' Busta - shame on them . . . :)
They also missed out the highest-ranked under-23, 22-year-old Grigor Dimitrov.
Two American 21-year-olds they didn't mention are also in the top 100, i.e. Harrison and Sock, but those two are WR 99 and WR 100 now so may not have been in the top 100 when the article was written.

I am always too slow on these things. Had found Dimitrov and was doing a "sweep" of the list when you tweeted.
Re Harrison and Sock, I understand what you are saying but when did they break into the T100 ? If the article was written more than a couple of weeks ago (ie possibly before they hit the T100), Raonic would have qualified as well as he only turned 23 on 27/12/13

Harrison was WR 100 the Monday before Raonic's birthday and the Monday after but Sock was just outside at that point. He had been in the top 100 before (CH 76) but only got back in this week.
Edit: this time you beat me ... at least we agree though

Hope Soto are reading this !!! It's all very well 'the conversation' (who?) getting it wrong but Soto might be thinking twice now. (Mind you,, it seems to be the conversation and not the official surveys - I've been checking some of their facts and figures and, as far as I can tell to date, they seem (thankfully) to be right). Well done to Bob and Steven though . . .
The discussion about funding, and travel, and the ITF and their stingy prize-money, comes up a lot and this might not be the best thread but couldn't find a specific one (think the comments must evolve in normal tournament threads) but Daniel Glancy's blog is quite interesting:
There's nothing really radical (ie ITF prize-money should be increased) but he confirms that his main source of funding, and what keeps him afloat, is playing French and German club tennis
