Week 42 - ITF ($10,000) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt (hard)

Katy Dunne is over in Egypt for the next two weeks and a good chance to pick up some soft points as only 25 players have entered, plus any wildcards. Thus no qualifying and some byes for the seeds.

Katy should be seeded now she has the points from Loughborough added.

Katy should have good memories of Egypt. It was here last September that she won a G2 junior event to start her major leap up the junior rankings. Lets hope for a similar impact on her WTA ranking here.

L32: Katy Dunne WR 800 v (Q) Iva Ivkovic (SRB) UNR (17yo)

The winner of this match is likely to face the no. 2 seed in R2. Katy would have been the 8th seed had there not been a late entrant qualifier.

For that reason alone i hope Stefkova goes out in the first round.

Yashina may be tough for Katy in rd 2 assuming she gets through

She tweeted that she's off to Asia and then Melbourne. (she's a year younger so still a junior for the year to come)

L32: Katy Dunne WR 800 beat (Q) Iva Ivkovic (SRB) UNR by 2 & 2

Probably gets the 2nd seed in R2 but it looks like that won't be decided until tomorrow (though I'm not quite sure why they only have 4 singles and 4 doubles matches scheduled for today when they have 4 courts, so maybe more matches are being played today than are on the ITF site OoP.

Well, playing in difficult conditions is what gives you the experience that'll stand in good stead in some more important match later on. . . .

well done to Katy, who's also just won the first set in her doubles.

L16: Katy Dunne WR 800 v (Q) Reem Fayed (EGY) UNR

Fayed has never won a match in a 10K before, so how did she reach R2 here? A bye in the final qualifying round and a walkover against the 2nd seed in R1! It no longer seems to matter that Katy just missed a seeding by one place

Potentially Elisa Mertens in QF who is still a junior and doesn't play much on the tour, but already has won a 10k in Egypt
