Can't help but notice that our 'tier 2' GB women have a very large amount of points to defend in the coming month or two. Things may look a lot less rosy come December:

Madagascar's no. 1 Razafimahatratra was a top 25 junior early last year and has made it to WR 574 without playing very many tournaments, so I doubt it will be any easier than today's match for Naomi.

Not sure I'd count JoKo as tier 2, considering she's our No 2 right now. She's the only one out of that list I'm not too worried about, even though she's still recovering from her abdominal strain.

The Indian teenager upset 3rd seed Birnerova today, so is another opponent who may be trickier than her current ranking implies.

No, you're right Helen40, but it was because she's ranked 100 + and just for completeness, to compare with the others.
In fact, it shows, I think, as you said, that Joko will be fine - i.e. she's ONLY got 18 points to come off (and is far higher ranked) whereas some of the others are a lot more vulnerable.

A good sign to see Naomi winning two matches in 3 sets as well. I'm sure she lost about 7 or 8 three setters in a row during her lean spell last year.
