Not suggesting any shifts in partnerships - as various people have rightly commented, there's a lot that goes into doubles pairings. But just in fairness to Mr Thornley, he seems to be very well thought of by a number of people who know what they are doing in doubles, and he has the highest career high doubles ranking of any of the gentlemen outside the ATP-level doubles teams. It's possible to admire Mr Burton's talent without playing down that of others.
On a separate note, Steven (or someone else who is knowledgeable), Mr Lewis' comment about Wimbledon finalists made me wonder: have we ever had (or how many times have we had) a futures tournament in which all of our recent GS doubles finalists/winners played? (thinking of Burton/Morgan, Farquharson/Broady, Ward-Hibbert, Golding, Edmund and - for good measure - Graeme Dyce).
I assume Gary didn't read my 2nd paragraph (the "whether it is actually a realistic option (or even whether the players feel that there is a problem that needs to be solved in the first place) is just about impossible for an outsider to know. I have no idea how well the four of them get on or whether the swapped pairs would complement each other anywhere near as well as the existing pairs.") since if he had, he would have realised the 'suggestion' was just meant as an idle thought and that I accepted that I had no inside knowledge of all the other things that go towards making up the existing partnerships and maybe wouldn't have felt the need to reply quite so ...ly (I don't want to offend so I'll leave the reader come up with an adverb for themselves ...) or the need to be quite so scathing about one of the players concerned.
Also, is Troubleshooter not a Gary/A1 alias after all, or is it all an elaborate wind-up? On second thoughts, don't worry, I don't really care - but many apologies to Troubleshooter for assuming he/she was an alias if that isn't the case

Mr Lewis, I am not sure you are doing your protegés any favours by explaining - repeatedly - how amused they are by the perceived shortcomings of posters and players who are liked and respected by others. Time to draw a line under this conversation? That's not meant nastily, but it's not going anywhere helpful.
