Been fan of ken for years and was shame when broke with colin Fleming but its brilliant that we have GB answer to the Bryan bros I expect them to soon be officially GB no1 pair .
Consequently they no longer need funding but be great to have them in our Aegon or national indoors doubles team & in GB Davis cup v USA be great !

And, given that the average age for reaching your CH is now 27, they are all well on the right side of that - not baby boomers, certainly, but not late on the scene either.

The last figures I saw had the average age to break into the top 100 for men as a bit older (more like 26, from memory - got the file somewhere). But there's not much in it and some of the figures don't agree because some 'weight' it by taking into account how long they then spend there. The 28 years old average for the top 100 seems to be universally agreed on!
Net net, though, A1, I quite agree - the average age is so much older than most non-tennis people think (they're still in the Boris Becker days or just focusing on the absolute top ones, which is a different story).
Also agree that good fortune (i.e. injury free and funding) plays a big factor. And motivation is the absolute key fundamental.
Dave Rice is one of my 'faves' but I don't quite see him as top 100. Marcus, maybe. Alex Ward has more mileage in him too. And several of the youngsters.
My personal view (based on experience with juniors) is that any player age 21 with a good solid game (properly learnt), a good physique (i.e. not 5 ft 5), good health and funding can make it into the top 200 if they are 100% dedicated to do so. Maybe they won't stay there long, some will find it harder than others, but it's possible, there's absolutely nothing magical about being a top 200 player. (Top 100 becomes a bit more tricky).
And, yes Stircrazy, I think Dave may come a cropper at the final singles hurdle too. But he's a little unpredictable - maybe tomorrow will be his day.

SF: (4) Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 405 defeated (7) Sam Barry (IRL) WR 495 by 1 & 1 SF: (2) Dave Rice WR 380 defeated George Coupland WR 925 by 2 & 2
*****
Final: (4) Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 405 vs (2) Dave Rice WR 380
I fear Dave may fall at the final hurdle, but that he doesn't.
From his results this week, Grigelis looks ominously like he may be playing closer to his career high (183 last year) level than WR 405 level, so like you I don't think Dave will start off as the favourite tomorrow.
However, Dave has already done enough to get to a career high around WR 350 on Monday week and he has won his other two Futures singles finals this year so hopefully he can find a way to make it a hat-trick
They have met once before, also in a Futures final in the UK - it was in Wrexham back in 2009 and Grigelis won 2 & 3.

Don't waste my time reading your posts , but from the few that I have seen, you seem like a very arrogant and sad individual
Please there is no need to get personal, A1 has contributed a lot to GB tennis over the last fews years and sticks his head above the parapit, as he very enthusiastic about British tennis. Can we just concentrate on the tennis as it a tennis forum as Steven has already stated in a previous thread. lets stop all this bickering please.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me
Why are you replying to yourself when asking Troubleshooter a question?
Bizarre behaviour. Forget to change accounts??
