Disappointed at the amount of criticism I get on this forum when I am one of the very few individuals in Brit tennis that is willing to financially support players and giving up a huge amount of my time free but all I get is stick .

I am now getting complaints from other A1 directors saying  surely considering the cynicism on this forum which typifies  the lack of support within GB tennis  generally  there are more worthwhile  projects consequently  after our current GB tennis  project come to fruition we will  concentrate on other sports & tennis sponsorship only of foreign players

1) there are many talanted but financially disadavantaged  foreign players Eg foreign lady player that has top 10 potential

2) more deserving sports & causes

The forum has been persuasive in its argument  and It's now been agreed that any future tennis players to be sponsored  by A1 will not be British .

You are getting complaints from other directors of your company about a tennis forum? Have they really not got anything better to do? How does your firm actually make any money, and what do you actually do except post on here?

Actually don't bother answering - I'm past caring.

Hey guys the one thing we have in common on this forum is that we all love tennis. We need to be much more positive and encouraging about our players and stop this moaning. I love to read this forum but it's been so negative lately - come on lets get back to what this forum is good at!

George edges past Robert Carter 6-4 7-6(8) 7-5 in what looks like it must have been a right scrap!

Seagull. I agree. Frankly, Gary's making this up as he goes along. I don't believe a word of it.

If Marcus or any of Marcus' friends read stuff like this, it would and should make them VERY nervous indeed. I'm not going to bother to comment anymore, because I can't take this seriously at this point. Just hope Marcus, Lewis and any others who may currently be in the process of being signed up are extremely careful. Wish all the GB players well.

I don't mean this as a witch hunt, but that is still just an excuse.  I presume that there must be a hidden more detailed appraisal of the match?  Poor preparation, complacency perhaps?  Players switch from outdoor to indoor and vice-versa throughout the year.  As for lighting, I cannot believe that a healthy young man with good eyes would not adapt to the surroundings within a reasonably short space of time.

Good luck for next week anyway.  A few more carrots might be on the menu in the meantime :o)

Chavkev, the umpire was an factor in the match against Myles some horrendous calls on the big points to be honest he didn't do a lot right! Pushed wrong buttons most of the time which was mentioned at the time. It was just one of those days by the sound of it with everything conspiring against Marcus.

So much for being "proud to be British". What a load of rot.

Sounds like a right laugh.  As you can probably tell, I have sympathy with the Roy Keane school of having no excuses.  Better to say it was crap and we are going to do better next week (and then do something constructive with the week - something I am not doing by being on here!)

Has Mr Magoo been given any more matches this week or has he been gently sidelined?  (Edited as it took up too much space.

Yes, George will probably be as stiff as a board tomorrow ! Well done to him, though, semi-finals ! (And Dave is not 100% reliable at the moment so who knows . . . )

And I'm with Twizzle - time for group hugs smile

Just to say, old posts have been edited (Troubleshooter) and everything patched up perfectly - all smiles.

And, Gary (and A1), you KNOW that we all support GB tennis to the hilt and that includes Marcus and Lewis and everybody else (well, some might draw a line at Brydan but that's a whole new can of worms !!! hmm) .

And as you also know, we're a very small bunch of people - if Marcus gets to Wimbledon second round next June, you'll be  a hero, Marcus will be a hero and nobody will care what a bunch of forumites think . . . stick with your big picture and focus on that and I wish you every luck with it.

I don't give a monkey's who ends up a GB no. 5

Someone said that it'd make a difference to a potential sponsor - guess that might be true - but would a sponsor prefer someone WR 400 who was GB no 5 or someone WR 280 who was GB no 7 ? (Purely hypothetical numbers).

Well, I don't think it matters in the long run, either, and I'm just trying to keep myself occupied.

However, sponsorship in tennis is a case of Information Asymmetry. You and I can make a reasonably fair judgment about the abilities of a player, but plenty of potential sponsors may not be able to do the same (because they don't read this messageboard ), and in a country where plenty of people think Boggo to be one of the worst players in the world, "GB no.5" may sound better than "WR 400". It's all about finding a way to sell yourself, as our good friend A1 will probably testify.

Oh, I'm not knocking you Salmon - keep doing the numbers, we all love numbers and stats ! :)

NB Dave and Sean have won the first set 6-3 and are a break up in the second. Nice to see them having a bit more success again with the doubles (although, for what it's worth, singles still come first in my book, David !!!!)
