RE: Week 42 - Great Britain F21 ($10,000) - Loughborough (Hard)

Thoroughly cheesed off with the Brit-bashing today - now no Brit interest in the bottom half of the doubles draw:

QF:  (2) Sam Barry & Laurynas Grigelis (IRL/LTU) CR 797 defeated James Marsalek & Myles Orton CR 1818 by 6-0 7-6(5) cry

*****

SF:  Kevin Griekspoor & Scott Griekspoor (NED/NED) CR 1422 vs (2) Sam Barry & Laurynas Grigelis (IRL/LTU) CR 797

The GB players in general, and certainly a couple from one particular camp, seem to be conspiring to stop this thread approaching the record breaking size that some had predicted for it !

Yeah, it's not gonna happen this week. The whole thing was dependent on Aurelius and Burton going deep, which would naturally lead A1 to posting the same thing about five times in quick succession.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am starting to hope that Lewis and Marcus get stuffed in the doubles and I don't even care about doubles!!

The sad thing is that having heard quite so much about Marcus and Lewis, it makes me want them to win less than I otherwise would have done.

And to complete the near-rout:

QF:  Joris de Loore & Pirmin Hänle (BEL/GER) CR 1340 defeated Aaron Banasik & Sam Hutt UNR by 1 & 1 cry

****

SF:  (1) David Rice & Sean Thornley CR 469 vs Joris de Loore & Pirmin Hänle (BEL/GER) CR 1340

A1 seems to be hard work, not Marcus and Lewis...it can't be easy to deal with it on daily basis.

I am guessing Polly may be looking at the forum quite a bit these days, partly covering her eyes LOL

Based on the very little that I interacted with Marcus, he seemed to be a particularly nice guy, so it'll definitely take more than messageboard spam for me to wish him ill.

Surprised Harry Meehan hasn't made more of an impression in both singles and doubles in his career so far. Has a very good serve (16 aces so far today) which lets him have a few free swings when returning. Will be interesting, now under the wing of Goodall, to see how far he can progress in the next few years. Top 750 by end of 2014? He's still very young

I've seen Harry play a few times now, his serve is a real weapon. Hopefully with Josh's guidance, he'll really start making Progress up the rankings.

As for A1's suggestion that Harry should concentrate on doubles, I think that should be added to his very long list of other ill thought out comments.

And A1's all right. He does get a bit excited with his ideas (which I normally don't agree with), but I think he means well!

I certainly have never wished him ill.  I could just feel myself supporting him a little less than I otherwise would have done and was annoyed by that.  So glad to hear he is a particularly nice guy - it will make the pendulum swing more in the other direction!

Not so sure about Lewis, but only from what I have read on here a few months ago.

I can understand the "Oh, that's a real pity .... (but at least it might keep you know who a bit quieter this week)" reaction - not least because I was guilty of it myself for a moment - but supporting Marcus or Lewis any less because of things their sponsor says on a forum (or, indeed, because of some other hearsay on a forum like this) sounds like a very bad idea to me ...

Agreed, Steven, Marcus and Lewis are seperate from Gary, who has even changed his reports on what they were laughing about ( "oh, it was all me" ) so I take some of his words with a pinch of salt, and am trying ( hard ! ) to be uninfluenced in my thoughts on Marcus and Lewis.

My thoughts re Gary though are continually evolving LOL

It's been a poor week, but here's the race (i.e. what you get after removing all the points that they are defending) to the year end no.5, anyway...

Corrie - 126*
Willis - 117
Edmund - 110
Rice - 107*
Hewitt - 94
Ward - 87
Gabb - 87
Goodall - 79
Klein - 71

To get to the top 300, one needs about 147 points right now.
