RE: Week 42 - Great Britain F21 ($10,000) - Loughborough (Hard)

Pleased to see that Rob and George are doing well.

I've never seen George play live, only on stream, which seemed very positive, lots of good stuff. Don't know anything about the man though - he's that bit older, is he really giving it a go,, full-time, committed ? Did he do college ? Does he have funding of some sort ? I wish him well - it's good to see some different profile players come through.

And Rob has a lot of potential, and the time to achieve it,, and (from what he said about giving fitness a mega priority this year) the desire to do so.

So it'll be a nice 6 points (at least) for someone . . .

Thought I read here somewhere that George C was part of the Aegon elite group ?

Or maybe that was previously. I didn't realise he was 24 already.

Sure you're not thinking of George Morgan ?

I think he probably did US college - haven't goggled it but he only played a couple of tournaments two (or was is three) years ago, both in the US.

Are you thinking of George Morgan, Bob?

A rather strange week, and certainly generally not in a good way.

Though encouraging to see the progress of such as Rob Carter and Harry Meehan.

I stopped watching the scores midway through the first set, and it looked like Josh was dominating without getting the (crucial) break. Was expecting him to win this one, honestly.

Now only Ricey can salvage something substantial out of this tournament.

Even if a Brit goes on to win this, it's going to be the worst home Futures for the Brits for ages

L16: (1) Ashley Hewitt WR 376 lost to (Q) Piotr Lomacki (POL) WR 1544 by w/o
L16: (WC) Harry Meehan WR 2054 lost to (7) Sam Barry (IRL) WR 495 by 7-6(4) 2-6 7-5
L16: Josh Goodall WR 520 lost to (5) Joris de Loore (BEL) WR 418 by 6-4 7-6(5)
L16: Rob Carter WR 904 beat Lewis Burton WR 690 by 4-6 6-0 6-3 biggrinbleh
L16: George Coupland WR 925 beat Myles Orton WR 1059 by 6-3 7-6(3)
L16: (Q) Bruce Strachan UNR lost to (Q) Nicolas Rosenzweig (FRA) WR 1476 (CH 687 in 2012) by 3-6 6-1 6-2
L16: (2) Dave Rice WR 380 beat Marcus Daniell (NZL) WR 586 (CH 569 in Jul) by 5 & 2

(non-GB): (7) Sam Barry (IRL) WR 495 (CH 489 in Sep) v (Q) Piotr Lomacki (POL) WR 1544 (CH 1479 in Aug)
(non-GB): (4) Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 405 (CH 183 in 2012) v (5) Joris de Loore (BEL) WR 418 (CH 409 in Aug)
QF: Rob Carter WR 904 v George Coupland WR 925 - H2H 1-0, 6 & 3, Sheffield QF last month
QF: (2) Dave Rice WR 380 v (Q) Nicolas Rosenzweig (FRA) WR 1476 (CH 687 in 2012) - H2H 2-1
... 2 straight sets wins for Dave in 2010 but Rosenzweig beat him in a 3rd set tiebreak in Bath last year

I can see similar problems in the next two weeks where foreigners start picking up big points at Tipton and Edgbaston. These players are staying on and our boys seem to be dropping out or stepping up to challengers

If they are stepping up to Challengers, that's not so bad, but I've always thought there must be a danger than once some of the better overseas Futures players came sniffing around again (as was bound to happen at some point), the GB points hauls from them might quickly dry up - after all, you only need two good non-Brits making the Final and that's half the total points available from the tournament gone.

I agree Korriban - i'd much prefer players to try and step up and let the young guns to come through and get a chance to progress.

The young guns in Israel are back for Edgbaston and it would be nice for the likes of George and Rob and others not to walk into the better British players each week. I don't mind if the foreigners pick up some points. It's probably beneficial to play some different players and styles rather than the same old faces.

Indeed, korriban, the bodies were there this week ( and I would have predicted the same semi finals as you ), just for whatever reasons not the performances.

Seems less bodies over the next 2 GB futures weeks, but it will be interesting to see how the lower ranked / younger guys get on and all our guys competing in challengers.
