RE: Week 42 ATP 250 Stockholm (Indoor Hard)

Let's move on, then. Obviously not a great performance but I'll keep my fingers crossed for an LL spot.

And as expected, Dan has withdrawn from the Challenger in Melbourne, so he'll be taking quite a step down by going back to 10Ks with a ranking inside 250.

Not sure about the 'not a great performance' . . . on an absolute level,, no of course not but on a relative level,, I thought Dan played a very good match against the world number 137 (138?).

He was very unlucky in the first set to bet broken (horrid net cord and flukey return) and deserved to be broken in the second following those couple of loose forehands.

But overall,, it was very close, some very good tennis from Dan, excellent first serves (the second is more dodgy) and, given where he's come from i.e. everyone worried that he;d never make the move up to challengers, I think he's consolidated his recent progress very well.

I've been generally thinking the same, CD.

For whatever reasons, there was quite a lot of doubt expressed in the forum about Dan having much success above futures level. I'd say the boy has done OK so far.

Ahh, thanks. I was just going by the lukewarm-at-best score, since I didn't get to watch the match.

Yeah, Dan has done fairly well since moving up from Futures (I didn't doubt that, anyway ). He hasn't taken the world by storm, but he has beaten a few higher ranked players, so I think he can move into the top 200 in the next few months.

Yes, Dan surely has to be reasonably happy with his latest attempts to move up a level - he has shown himself can compete well at Challenger / ATP Q level and hopefully he can build on that over the next 6 months enough for him to be scoring regularly enough in the higher events not to feel forced to drop back to Futures next summer just to defend points.

... and is in the final. Amazing player. Actually just checked his age (to see if he would be oldest active player). Turns out he's slightly younger than the equally amazing Nestor. Time for a comeback?

Nestor is 3 years younger than George Barth.
