12 British entrants in challengers is the most I can remember since doing the lists (and Cox is back to $10K's for some reason). In the States Corrie is 8th alt with Rice 12th, and Kyle is 7th alt in Morocco. And Fitzy is back!!

Yes. Great to see Fitzy back on the list.  But also Oli. Let's hope that means he is making a speedy recovery.

And I had to do a double take, but is that Boggo's name as well ?  Let's hope it's not a bluff.

No, you're right Bob - it was in Dan's tweets - back for training and then stockholm qualies .. .

If it's a strategic thing, then really weird.

But sometimes the players choose a tournament for personal reasons (like Alex W in Barca or Naomi B who just played the British Tour event in Nottingham which would look REALLY weird to someone who didn't know her) so it's just possible that Dan has some connection/friend/whatever over there in Greece and so wanted to take part.

Well, he hasn't.

But I think that with a ranking within 260, he should be safe (feel free to bump this post in January, if that isn't the case) and it's not like he is struggling in Challengers, so there was a good chance that he would finish the year inside the top 250 just by playing Challengers.

Last year, the cut off was below 300 (304, wasn't it?), and even with AU$1,000 as a travelling allowance, I don't think the cut will rise that much! In fact, there's a good chance that Corrie and Willis will make it, depending on how much they want to push themselves this season.

Good to see Fitzy back and the elusive Boggo(if he doesn't withdraw).

Also see that more male players are having a go at Challengers than the local GB and European futures. The incentive scheme seems to be working with Gabb down and Tom F, who i don't think will have played a foreign challenger before.

Again very few ladies appearing, this is something the LTA need to address.

Bravo, Coxy. You've just beaten a top 100 player, what a time to go back to playing 10Ks.

Didn't I read somewhere about Stockholm (Week 42) for Coxy ?  I know Alex W is going but I am sure somebody mentioned Coxy going as well.  That would make it even more strange. ATP 250 to 10K.

But there again, maybe I am just going (or have gone) dullally.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the Sacramento thread. This makes no sense at all because he is a) doing okay at Challenger level and b) he is in no danger of missing the AO qualies cut off.

I don't think he is going to Melbourne, then? Doesn't make much sense to play in Australia in one week, and in Greece the next.

Looking forward to following the challengers this week, hopefully everybody will turn up as above.

Re. Cox, I think that is probably quite a clever bit of scheduling. If the Greek futures is as weak as the last few weeks, then it is a much safer bet of picking up 18 points and securing his place in AOQ then winning through tougher Challenger MDs. I would however agree that from after he has secured AOQ it would be nice to see him having a stint of playing exclusively challengers (and maybe the odd 15k)

sorry salmon, just re-read your post: I didn't realise that he had already secured aoq. In which case still a good opportunity to add solidly to his points base and have a long stint at challengers at the start of next year maybe ?!

It looks like Bob has now resorted to bribery in the desperate effort to get these 20 in the top 500.

Boggo, Oli and Fitzy make sudden reappearances after their varied absences ! I take it that at least Jamie Baker has principles.

Let's see how many of those three are on the draw sheets when they come out at the start of the week. I'll take a guess at 1 - if we are lucky.

If I am right, then maybe I should have offered them more wink
