I think this has been doing rounds in my head for many years, but somehow I have never bothered to ask others about it. Can someone help me identify the background in Goodall's profile picture? There was a time when literally dozens of players, female and male, had profile pictures with the same background (I faintly recall Kerber or Goerges having it) but the pictures change with time, particularly for the higher ranked players.
But I am not sure if the text does. If you zoom into the picture, you can make out these combinations quite clearly -
a) DEA on the top left; and probably with an I before it, so maybe IDEA b) TIV on the top right, with what looks like an O after that; and that's an E/F before TIVO c) TOR at the bottom right
Now, none of those combos occur in the names of the Men's Singles winners, so at least it cannot be that part of the honours board. I checked the other winners' lists, too, and the only matches were VicTORia Azarenka (wasn't a winner when this pic was taken) and Daniel NesTOR (can be counted out because it won't fit in the Goodall pic)
The second one is most interesting. I don't think the combination -TIVO exists in English, and one possibility is that this could be part of the Spanish word OBJETIVO, or something else from a Romance language.
Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive.... those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience
That would be best, I'd start a Twitter account for this, but it'll be better if an older acquaintance does it. But yeah, not today, let's wait till the tournament is over. I'd survive a few more days (or even weeks) without knowing, I'm sure.
P.S. On the assumption that the pic was taken when he played a tournament in Milan, it's probably 10 years old, from when he played in the Trofeo Bonfiglio in 2003.

R. VaIDEAnu women 2002, i.e. just before Josh was there) Francesca BenTIVOglio (women 1989) EtTORe Fontana (men 1967) ... & winners from TORino tennis clubs
However, I'm not sure the positions on the board make sense (e.g. the fact that the most recent women's winner is on the top left rather than at the bottom - then again, maybe this is the doubles board and one of R. Vaideanu's parents won that some years earlier or a juniors board and she won that when she was younger!) and the letter before TOR looks like it is probably an A, so maybe it will have to remain a mystery

I have finally thought of a way to dig out the old profile pics.
a) go to Google Images and search with the player name b) Go go Search Tools > Size > Exactly; and enter 114x152 (standard size for all the profile pics).
So I entered "angelique kerber" and got...
Okay, now you guys know how much time I have on my hands.
