Seems to infer that at 1-1 in the second set Laura's opponent retired.

Unbelievably, I think Laura's second opponent on the trot has retired:

on ITF livescores it says:

L16 : (8) Laura Deigman WR 933 def . Chiara VOLEJNICEK (SUI) WR 1149 (CH 1107) age 17 5-7 1-1 retired

well, I guess you've got to be in it to win it. . . .

That should take Laura into the top 800 (just) for the first time.

It'll also give her (at least) 9 points from this trip to Egypt which, given she had only 12 points when she went there, is a nice haul.

Unfortunately it probably won't quite take her into the top 800 because she has 1 point due to come off when this week's points go on.

Laura has certainly been in the right place to aid her match and ranking points winning chances.

I can't help feeling that there have been plenty other missed real opportunities for GB girls in the last month or two.

Agreed - the girls don't really seem to be having a go at overseas tournaments as much as the men. Not sure why.
