Kudla's level in the 2nd set was perhaps even worse than in the 1st. Dan on the other hand cut out all the errors. Dan can be very satisfied with his day's work. 5 DFs is a little high, but the wind didn't help. Good luck in the next round!
Good to see Coxy wearing salmon.... Kudla must be much better than this normally, but Dan is doing well.
I've been watching this while on the phone so unable to post/tweet but I thought you'd be impressed by his choice of shirt!
This must one of the performances of his life - hugely impressive - 7-5 *4-0 as he breaks again.
Yep. Should stick to salmon for the rest of the tournament.
This could give him a new career high, but if it doesn't, his next win (here or elsewhere) surely will. I'm hoping that he Dan will get to face Steve Johnson because he is, once again, a fringe Tour player.
Well I didn't think Dan played that well in the first set apart from a gutsy hold and a sublime break at the tail-end. Little did I know that this purple patch was going to continue for 8 games in a row.
Dan's level in the second set was outstanding: however excrutiatingly badly Mr Kudla was playing today (and it was pretty awful stuff), it was noticeable that every time Kudla raised his game and put more pressure on, Mr Cox had an answer, either through outstanding defence, a long error free rally or a brilliant winner......he was too good on the day!
What is noticeable is that Mr Cox won playing positive attacking tennis, Mr Evans has gone up 3 levels by playing positive attacking tennis, and Mr Edmund has a positive attacking style. None of this "big serve and hope for mistakes" tennis that Mr Goodall often used to play, and that far too often Mr Ward (James that is) slips into almost without realising it. What is noticeable is that these younger lads are FAST and FIT....they have good defence when they need it. Testament to the behind the scenes work that is going on in GB tennis. The more success they have, and the more they play in groups around the work, the more it will encourage others to be more fanatical off the court, more aggressive on the court, and have more belief in themselves.

Just out of interest, Steven, which accent were you parodying? (I definitely missed a post from imoen along the way ....)
Great win for Mr. Cox. Didn't expect that, and am very glad indeed. Must do wonderful things for the confidence. Now for Mr Evans ...
Vis a vis previous comment re: Mr Wolmarans: I'd been thinking of his past form. In addition, unusually, almost all of the other FQR opponents bar one were lower ranked than he ... and none came anywhere near his career high. (I hadn't, however, looked up his recent FQR form!) That said, a lot of the rankings were probably, as in the case of Mr Kokkinakis, pretty meaningless.
