Williams blinks in a close exchange at the net (great reactions from Dan though) and 4 match points.
Fault on the 1st from RW - Dan forces the error. Dan gets the win :)
Good stuff Evo!

After cruising for most of the match, Dan really turned on the heat from 5-6 0-30 to win 11 of the last 13 points with some super tennis. Good win.

Dan wins the breaker  7-2!

A very good TB from DAn, and a few errors from RW.  Excellent!  to bed.....

Good solid win for Evo. Nothing spectacular but enough to get the job done and the kind of result that is important if he is to continue moving up the rankings. Second round really shouldn't be a problem as long as he is focussed.

Super match from Dan. Best i've seen him serve with no break points against. Williams really stepped up his game in the second set and Dan matched him all the way.

Williams would have beaten most players this week playing at that level in the second set.

The draw really has opened up now for Dan with the top seed gone, no reason why he cannot go long this week.

PS A couple of fantastic points - the drop, lob, drop and the smashes that Williams kept getting back

It wasn't long ago that Evo was a liability in TBs, but alas no more , great win.

Depends on who you make favourite out of Evo and Ebbo I guess (should they meet)

I think you probably mean "fortunately no more". smile

Couldn't really ask for much more than that - very professional from Evo ... and the battle to be 'top Dan' this week goes to R2 ...

L32: Dan Cox WR 263 beat (1) Denis Kudla (USA) WR 95 (CH 90 in Jul) by 5 & 0 biggrin
L32: Dan Evans WR 156 beat (5) Rhyne Williams (USA) WR 124 (CH 114 in Aug) by 6-3 7-6(2) biggrin

L16: Dan Cox WR 263 v Matt Reid (AUS) WR 235 (CH 187 in Jul)
L16: Dan Evans WR 156 v (WC) Jarmere Jenkins (USA) WR 542 (CH 537 in Sep)

Jenkins' ranking is only really based on a few tournaments since June - he has been winning a lot of matches recently, albeit mainly in Futures.

The one thing that I think we all picked up on during the summer was that he needed to tighten up with his serve. He was getting some cheap points with it but there were also far too many double faults and the first serve percentage was worrying low. It seemed to be a lot more solid here.
