RE: Week 40 - Kuwait F3 ($10,000) - Meshref (Hard)

I think it depends on your Goals , aspirations and of course wether your British or not !

In GB society Christmas is arriving earlier every year my policy would be to Christmas week but I used to love selling on Christmas eve when the competitors had closed down 2 days earlier - do you get my gist ?

Yes, but it doesn't seem a very relevant gist.

No I think most of us are unpenetrably stupid, so you really ought to explain it again. And again.

Do any of the slightly more mature forum users remember CJ from Reginald Perrin......he of the "I didn't get where I am today without selling on Christmas Eve, when all the competitors have closed down" mantras and business lessons he would force feed his brainwashed/beyond caring employees....

OK, come on Gary, please explain the relevance of your latest homely.

The only real relevance I can see is that it would quite probably be easier for Marcus to pick up yet more ranking points in late November / December when other players are having a tournament break to rest and / or train and practice.

It is the fact that many people would consider the resting / training / practicing option would be much better for Marcus that makes your little homely lose relevance here, although it's relevance to business is clear.

Making money is mega important in business. Short term chasing of ranking points can be counter-productive in tennis.

On a serious note I don't like to see players still competing beyond the middle of November. The guys playing in late November / December are normally those who have a bad year and are desperately chasing points or those that have missed much of the year. Marcus isn't in either category so should probably have a bit of time off and prepare well for next year.

What I can tell you is that I think several of them WILL be competing much later this year.

Whilst in Umag, I asked about the La Manga training camp. Last year, if I remember correctly on the last two weeks before Xmas, the majority of the up and coming players spent a fortnight in La Manga along with Leon and all the other coaches.  You may remember me reporting on it.

I asked what dates they would be going back there this year as I want to go down again. The doubles players will be in La Manga mid December this year. But the younger squad members are going to be there in January at the start of next year as there are apparently a lot more Futures opportunities running into December this year.

Personally, I think the master plan is for them to pick up a load of cheap points just to make sure there are 20 players in the top 500 on Dec 31st.  smile

Right, still waiting for a reply to my post ( from a university BSc ( Hons) who has actually studied Logic ) to assist me and my other "intellectually challenged" board colleagues towards greater understanding.

Oh, and please don't take the opportunity to regale us with stories about how real knowledge is gained in the tough business world from an early age rather than in lecture theatres.

A1, kindly refrain from aiming such unpleasant - & unwarranted - personal insults at other members of this board or you'll quickly find yourself banned from using it.  Oh, & cut out the verbal diarrhoea while you're at it! furious

But its alright for you to call to French lads FROGS on the French thread.
