RE: Week 40 - Kuwait F3 ($10,000) - Meshref (Hard)

battle for GB no5 at year end hotting up - looks between Edmund, Corrie, Willis and Rice, although I think Rice less likely as he may have to prioritise dubs. Not sure any of these can go deep in a challenger at the moment. I'm starting to think Willis with all the tournaments he may be entering. Could be enough to nudge the LTA if he gets there?? Good luck to all of them!

What are your sleuthing skills suggesting to you Salmon?

Very similar sentence construction (a loose term) with missing words......

Exactly the same opinions......

Exactly the same spelling mistakes.......

Not really talking about any other subjects apart from Marcus and A1's generous support.......

Hmmmm?

If you speak to your man in Kuwait before the final, tell him I am sending positive vibes all the way from Brazil.

Let's hope he wins.

I just spoke to Marcus he said thanks for all the support he was reading this board last night and he heading in the right direction. as somebody pointed out earlier will be around the 345 mark now with his 117 points GB No 5 maybe. So this year moved around 675 places in the ranking. He said that his goals is to try and break into the 200s before the year is out.

Is that possible to get any 46 places to get to 299 before the year is out how many points do you think will he need to do this coup, salmon or steven any stats people on here please help.

Marcus only has 2pts to defend to the end of the year, but will start dropping 18th best scores now. He will be on 118pts when these get added and somewhere in the region of 140 is required to get in the top 300.

Thus probably needs around 25pts probably required. Could do it after two UK 10's with a win and a final.

About 145 points should do it, but maybe 150 to be completely sure. Aurelius will have 118 points after the Kuwait points are added, so that's 150-118=32 more points he needs to add, plus he needs to replace 2 points that he'll lose from Thailand F6 2013 and add a few more points because he will fill up his best 18 very soon. All told, 32+2+a few more= 37/38 points, and he is guaranteed to be there, but even 32 points could do the trick.

Given his success on indoor courts, I think Marcus could get there if he has three great weeks in the British Futures. Even if he doesn't, odds are in favour of him getting it done before it's curtains for the season.

Thanks plankton for your post a few pages back (decent prediction at the end of it too) - hopefully Marcus and Gary both realise that all (or at least most) of us are on their side - I'm sure Marcus does (at the same time as he enjoys proving wrong any of us who thought he might not cope with the Kuwaiti heat wink) and Gary needs to realise that we value what he is trying to achieve with Marcus, it's just the 'friendly fire' he gives off to (I'll say it again) people who are basically on his side and some of the forum trolling methods he uses (for no apparent reason) that results in a bit of 'friendly fire' coming back at him

I wasn't around this morning, but that looks like an excellent win - Marcus's biggest ranking scalp outside the UK of the year so far, I think biggrin

Thanks to all of those who picked up the slack re the rankings questions To summarise (i.e. I don't think any of this hasn't already been said):

- Marcus should rise to around WR 350 on 14 October, and currently looks more likely to be in the 340s than in the 350s (though at this level, 5-10 place swings from week to week in where a given number of points from a given number of events gets you are not uncommon)

- Marcus is also 'virtual' GB no. 8 for 14 October - and will be actual GB no. 8 unless someone outside the current GB top 7 gets a few Challenger points next week (he would be level on points with Ed Corrie as things stand, but will have played a couple more events than Ed, I think, so will be just behind him)

- with 117 points this year, Marcus is 5th= for ATP singles points in 2013 only (equal with Ed and ahead of Kyle and Alex, with only the current GB top 4 ahead of him)

- the current world no. 300 has 144 points and Marcus now has 117 from 18 events in 2013 (i.e. excluding the 2 points from Phuket last November), so he probably needs 30+ more points (27 + the odd extra point to cover the 1-pointers that will drop out of his best 18 if he gets new counters + or - the odd point to cover random changes in the number of points needed to make the top 300 over the next few week)

Hi Gary - in theory we are all allies on this site as we all want the British lads to do well and support tennis. I've followed the youngsters for many years and also this forum where I've pretty much always found the site members very informative, fun, and very enthusiastic supporters of British tennis. Indeed you'll be doing your cause, and particularly that of Marcus and Lewis, more good if you wound your neck in just a little bit and got more people on your side! It's great that you're supporting the likes of Willis, Burton and also Fitzy and looking to help others, and you've clearly done your research and know some of the players well in picking players to support. It's also great that someone in the know comes on the forum and give more insight to us tennis fans. Ib does seem that you're taking out some frustration on forum members and other nationalities which is completely unwarranted.
But just because you're they're doing well doesn't make anyone else's opinions less relevant than yours. There are many with close insights on other players too whose views are greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the lecture - but share some love! Am sure we'd all like to be allies of yours too as many of us have a soft spot for the likes of Evo, Willis, Paulffs, Smethy, Milts etc
They're great people on this site and if you can't appreciate that, your island will stay a small and less inhabited one.
Good luck to a much improving Willis and Pauffs, who also used to both play as juniors together. I reckon willis could blow wang away this morning - hope so!
