Tara's performance making it very easy to find silver linings from this Fed Cup outing. Well done Tara
Tara a breath of fresh air yesterday, and flowing beautifully today, striking the ball well and apart from a breif dip, more consistent and better point construction than even last year when she played so well on the grass for several weeks for no reward.
A worthy debut, hopefully to serve as the final piece in her puzzle to really kick on this year.
I'm sure John Morris wishes he could just get her into this focus every week!
Heather is playing well again, and can beat players ranked as highly as she ever has.
By years end, she should have easily escaped the sticky quagmire that can be 100-150 in the rankings, even for very good players.
Joko dug really deep against Latvia and found enough to prevail though she is struggling with her game. When her game comes together
She also got to play a Top 10 player and learn from that - acquitting herself well in the second set.
Joss, still only a few months into her return though not quite at the level, was not far off at all, and certainly can be there. She wasn't outclassed against doubles players regularly on the high ITF/WTA circuits, just needed more consistency. She has plenty to aim for, and should have the belief from this week that it is absolutely attainable.
So, I think that despite the overall results, there is definitely plenty to take away from this week.
Hopefully we will have a fit, form Laura at some point for Fed Cup, and competition for places will be heated.
Would've been a brave call, both JoKo & Tara had pretty miserable trips out East.
Jo has shown a consistently higher level of form over the last 2 years, and despite Tara's globe-trotting 10K win back home I think you probably have to go with the proven quality.
Jo is our #1 player at this event after all! She should really have won the 2 rubbers she had a realistic chance of winning (Halep > any GB players at the moment). She put herself in great position to do so, but couldn't quite close it out - something I thought perhaps the Vancouver title last year might have helped her get over once and for all, as it does hold her back from getting to the levels that her game would otherwise take her.
