RE: Lta & private ATP player funding needs to become more widespread

Your right we do give more funding than other countries

What was it £500,000 for a coach for Andy murray but it did not work initially  he then Persevered and finally got the right coaching partner in  Lendl

But what we could have done with that £500,000 players like jathan Malik , Marcus Willis should be getting funding .

The fact that I have stepped in and it's made a huge different surely underlines that the current system is letting talent slip through the gaps !

In other poorer countries  people help out a lot more so there is less need

For funding . In GB tennis is the unacceptable face of british capitalism - every man for himself !

You will see a leaner fitter Marcus in 2014 - as you saw a leaner fitter Marcus in 2013 compared with 2012 !

And we appreciate the constructive critism even if it is emphasising the obvious at times -

what might be useful is suggestions that might not be so obvious

Eg accomodation hosts , sources of sponsored kit , best challenger tournaments to compete  , Details of other individuals who could expand what I have pioneered to more players , more supporters at futures tourmaments eg 6 people watched Wrexham futures final mostly parents of ball boys /girls .

Mess not a lot greater at Roehampton which was a great venue

If it's so obvious, why doesn't the young man concerned just do something permanent about it, instead of doing a bit here and there, and aiming to complete the job at some unspecified point in the future. Otherwise the next thing could be that he's too old for it to be worth taking action. The obvious tends to have a bigger impact than the subtle, doesn't it?

Andy Murray is the cash cow. If the LTA refuses to give him the extra attention (which he definitely deserves), he could stop playing Davis Cup and/or Queen's, and that'll mean less money for Malik and Willis.

Jathan Malik deserves funding !

At Roehampton recently when JM took in form Dan cox to close tie break first set  i was told by a supporter that jathan malik was told by the LTA that he was too small like Marcus for different reasons he appears to have slipped through the net Luckily his coach Phillip is not a money monster and is hugely committed and they work on a shoe string & a huge amount of dedication & commitment .

- its obviously spurred JM  on and he attentions deserves  financial support  I would like to help but already over budget  unless can raise addition funds . I  need  volunteer fund raisers to help raise funds to financially support & mentor players like Jathan .

Need free coaching to break down elitism in GB tennis

Need free coaching for financially disadvantaged kids - A1 pharmaceuticals academy we have free membership

& coaching for children the club is squeezed between 2 council housing estates .

For the best Athletes need to compete with established main stream

Sports eg Football  where it's relatively cheap to play and free coaching available .

If your a Rio Ferdinand living on a Peckham council estatetennis is not an affordable option

Bang away as much as you like Mr Lewis - just do it on a single thread - so we can either engage with you, disagree with you or simply ignore you without it disrupting all the other threads which help us keep upto date with everything GB tennis!

If you are persistent, can you please have a fireside chat with Mr Willis about his conditioning and encourage him to be like-minded!! We are all rooting for him, but it's difficult to be too optimistic when, as you say yourself, he's not really tackled the "obvious" thing that could take him up 2 or 3 levels. If he was just a player who could sneak into the top 350, I probably wouldn't get too repetitive about it, but he's obviously so much better than that. Or rather, he isn't until he pulls his finger out on out-conditioning his opponents. Talent is just a small part of what it takes......

thank you, Sir.

Did not say he's not tackling the obvious -

If I was not happy with his progress why did I renew his sponsorship contract for another 12 months because its working !

To be honest I think you should be more worried about the Aegon sponsored players

that Marcus keeps beating !

Marcus us getting the results and will I am sure continue to prove the doubters wrong !

How about a new thread - free coaching

Feel free to keep banging away but perhaps you should remember that this is fairly small forum mostly used by fans of British tennis. Most of us agree with you that the current funding mechanism is flawed but we are not in positions if authority to change it. Saying the same thing to us over and over again is not likely to result in anything changing.

I agree with you that certain Aegon sponsored players are not getting the results on the tennis court, and I have been rather sceptical in the past about how the selections are made. Some of them clearly ARE doing well, but in the main it hasn't been a boom year - for GB men yes, for Team Aegon sponsored men, NO! But I also agree with you that if there were a more widespread availability of funding to more than just a few, it would (to some extent) reduce the diificulty of making correct value judgements of who to back and who not to.

But it would appear to me that Marcus is beating these other players you refer to because he is considerably more talented than they are, not because he is putting in the hard yards more than they are........that's not to say that he hasn;t worked very hard this year, much more perhaps than in the past (I'm sure he has, with your support), but I put it to you that if he were LTA sponsored and he turned up to Wimbledon with a singles WC in his current physical shape, it would generate considerable column inches whether he won or lost, and not necessarily positive ones. He will surely know that talent alone CANNOT get him into the top 150 or beyond.

Anyway, I think we may be on the same page deep down, and so long as you and Marcus are comfortable that all the necessary efforts are being paid to his conditioning as he storms up the rankings (and I think he really CAN), then that's great news.

A1 - Are you just focussing on men's tennis or do you have an interest with the ladies as well. They seem to be in a similar position regarding funding?

This fella's starting to do my nut in now. He's like one of those spam bots that just won't go away, repeating the same crap over and over. We get your point, we actually agree with it! Who exactly do you think you're trying to convince by regurgitating it again and again??
