I am sure there are plenty of potential top 100 players out there that would benefit from
Management & funding . I think there needs to be a greater collective search For talent with an emphasis on players aged 16-22 . Myself as a club team player in the lower divisions i am consistently disappointed by the lack of interest in supporting talented Junior ITF & ATP players at wealthy clubs . Rather than leave it all to the Lta what about more collective responsibility for supporting our struggling young players .
I am confident that their are 1/2 dozen players in GB top 50 that could rise 25% + in the rankings with the right management & funding . I also believe that GB tennis is doing very well and moving in the right direction .
I have been watching some future events in the UK (Shrewsbury and others) I watched a great boy Jathan Malik get his first ATP ranking point. After the match I spoke to him and was shock to hear he gets no funding or help from the LTA. I have watched his results and been impressed on how he is developing, he is 19 and got a great future. I can't understand why he has not been helped.
While I do see your points, korriban, to be fair Rome wasn't built in a day, and Marcus will no doubt take rather longer to get in the shape he should be in ( not that he should ever have got so out of shape).
His results have improved fairly dramatically and by all accounts his physical condition has improved to some degree.
What I will say is that there can be absolutely no excuse, given all the faith that has been shown in him and surely with the encouragement of these results, if Marcus does not come out at the start of next year a markedly leaner, fitter player. A1 has said elsewhere that "he will" improve that condition.
You will see a leaner fitter Marcus in 2014 - as you saw a leaner fitter Marcus in 2013 compared with 2012 !
And we appreciate the constructive critism even if it is emphasising the obvious at times -
what might be useful is suggestions that might not be so obvious
Eg accomodation hosts , sources of sponsored kit , best challenger tournaments to compete , Details of other individuals who could expand what I have pioneered to more players , more supporters at futures tourmaments eg 6 people watched Wrexham futures final mostly parents of ball boys /girls .
Mess not a lot greater at Roehampton which was a great venue
It is getting rather hard to keep up with the constantly increasing threads even when actually having some interest as I have myself. Apart from anything else similar points are already being made in different threads.
hmmmmm, this country is one of those that gives the most funding. Lack of funding that hasn't stopped less funded countries producing better results, so it seems it can't just be about money. If anything our lot have it too easy.
The juniors once in the systems are pretty much guaranteed to be in it, and don't have to really keep their places against later developers, who may be hungrier/harder workers.
Make them really fight for it/earn it, they will need that drive/fight, determination and work ethic later is they are truly to succeed.
Need more support and if do not start getting it likely under increasing pressure from the Sponsor A1 Pharmaceuticals to switch to other arguably more deserving sports & causes in the future - where there is more support at the grass roots level too much energy being wasted by myself & my team in GB tennis eg we can not even get a kit sponsor for Marcus Willis and our Aegon team ! Lol
Once Marcus is off the ground unless we start to get more support it's going me off back to my working class roots & more deserving causes ! eg free coaching in poor inner city areas
I am shocked at the lack of financial support & volunteers for what I am trying to achieve but not surprised when I was a 12 year old working 8 hours a day during my milk round on a Saturday for £0.50 ( 1972/3 ) a day the tips always came from predominantly poor working class community in lambeth not the affluent barristers & politicians even at Christmas they did not put their hands in their pockets .

I think you are quite out of touch!
The cost of court hire and coaching compared to other countries.
We are on an island to travel abroad stay in hotels - all of this is so expensive. We are one of the countries that gives out most funding but the LTA only give help to a very few. I have seen a lot of very hungry and hard working players that just need a bit of help. Why fund just a few of each aged group - spread the money to help more!
I agree with chavkev, Shhh and indiana and I'll merge some of these threads that are all saying much the same thing later.
A1 - I'm sure most of us very much support what you are trying to do with Marcus, but if you're trying to get more people onside and to take you seriously, I'd hazard a guess that starting thread after thread saying variations of the same thing isn't the best way to do it.

OK, but seriously you risk alienating people on here with so many threads and posts, some clearly pretty rushed out. And it doesn't seem helpful to have not dissimilar discussions on different threads.
It is also shoving down such as other tournament threads onto the 2nd page here, when well under 24 hours since their last reply.

Hold up there squire, I assumed that these A1 Tennis Academy posts were being written by Gary Lewis, who with his wife owns 100% of the share capital of A1 Pharmaceuticals Plc (pre-tax profits of £3.2 million for y/e 30 April 2013).
Don't get me wrong - I work for a firm of accountants, so I'm entirely in favour of the profit motive - but isn't it a tad disingenuous to say that you're coming under pressure from A1, when in fact to all intents and purposes you ARE A1?
Sorry if this comes across as cynical
