Certainly not going to worry too much about the result. Despite not playing at his best Dan very nearly won what always looked like being a tough match. Hopefully a week of intense practice will sharpen up his game a bit and put him in a good shape for the Sacremento and Tiburon.
If i recall, Dan lost his first round match very easily in the first tournament of his 3 US Challenger series just before the USO, making final in both of the others, and having MPs to win both finals too! This was a nasty draw in the first round, with a wafer between both players it seems. Let's hope he views the trip as a 3 tournament series again, uses the practice time as effectively as last time, and makes an impact in the next 2. i have a good feeling about it.
Can hardly think of any winners from either player
It's a bit hard to say because the camera angle was pretty low and the stream was of poor quality but the impression I got was that the court was pretty slow and fairly high bouncing hard court which isn't really conducive to hitting lots of winners.
That's a very nice win for Messrs Corrie and Smethurst.
Suspect that Mr Smyczek may be too much of a step up for Mr Cox: since Wimbledon he's had victories over a number of players ranked in the 50 to 150 range, and his losses have been to Haas, Blake, Jack Sock, Granollers, Andujar, Mahut and Verdasco. But who knows?
Dan missing way too many first serves and when he does get a decent one in its called a let and on the second attempt he misses. Then the second serve gets attacked.
Edit: Ah yes. As above

And he was the last US man standing at the US open no less.
This won't be the match of the giants as Smyczek is also smaller than average height for a tennis player.
