I think it's because just seeing "Evo" in isolation the natural instinct is to pronounce it "ee-voe" and somehow folk ( well, me anyway ) have not particularly considered the pronounciation of the "ev" in Evans.
Sadly I am another that always assumed it was Eevo, until I heard the chanting at DC. Fortunately, I had kept my mouth shut until I heard how others were pronouncing "Let's go Evo, let's go" otherwise I could easily have made a fool of myself.
So why Eevo (when I am from south of the Watford Gap) ? Put it down to old age and glue.
Edit: No worries though he breaks again to take the set 6-1
For anyone interested, I googled Mac Styslinger just because I thought his name was interesting. He goes to same uni that Dom and Treat went to (UVa) and is the NCAA doubles champion this year, as Dom was in 2009. The things you learn when you can't sleep...

Dan is getting thumped, Josh Milton will not get through qualifying either. Both players set to fall down the rankings.
Well I wouldn't say thumped, but Dan has lost his serve 5 times in a set and a half to a 19 year old ranked in the 900s, and finds himself a set and a break down.
Whenever I've watched Dan and Josh, I thought neither had any obvious weapons, and that Dan's backhand and Josh's serve were big weaknesses, obvious to any opponent within a few points. Good enough for rankings in the 400-600 region perhaps, with a few good futures tournaments per year, but well short of the standard needed to make an impact at Challenger level, let alone in tier 1 ATP tournaments. All players can and should improve their games, so there is always hope that they can both find a way to solve these issues and break through.......Some players believe they are better than their ranking, and that they have something special that will come through in time....I don;t think either of these players has that inner swagger or belief to fall in this camp
Dan now a set and 2 breaks down......OK that's being thumped! Poor result.
Not a bad win that for Mr Milton: will be interesting to see how he does against Mr Kokkinakis. (NB: I had also looked up Mr Styslinger. The fact of his doubles title owes a fair amount, I suspect, to his erstwhile partner, Jarmere Jenkins, who was also the singles finalist ... losing to Blaz Rola. But Mr Styslinger is himself clearly better than his ranking suggests. Mr Kokkinakis' beating both Mitchell Frank - another University of Virginia player and more highly ranked than Mr Styslnger - and Andrew Harris is also fairly impressive.)
