the 125k series are normaly very under strength for the points on offer but they usual away from where the tour is or quiet parts of the year
this one being in asia whilst tour is in full asian swing means loads of players are in the area already and its is easily by far the most competitive ive seen
This is definitely the strongest 125K field I've seen and I'm sure you're right about the reason. A bit more about Jo's opponent:
L32: Johanna Konta WR 141 v (8) Lauren Davis (USA) WR 75 (CH 63 in Apr)
The winner plays the winner of a Q v Q match in R2.
Davis has already won a 100K title this year (Midland in February) and reached the QFs at Québec Ciity WTA a couple of weeks ago.
H2H 1-1, both in early 2012 in 25Ks - JoKo got thrashed 1 & 0 by Davis in Innisbrook but then beat her 1-6 6-1 6-3 in Rancho Mirage the following month on her way to the title there.

You know what you are going to get from Lauren Davis, so if JoKo can recreate her recent form it will probably be enough to win. Equally the scores in the first 3 sets of their past meetings suggest that there could be trouble if JoKo isn't on her game.
those final 20 places to get in to the top 100 are hard work though still needs 150 more points
Terrific stuff, Ms Konta! There's no doubt she's become more and more competitive against the better players - and her losses (which are fewer and fewer) tend to be close matches, rather than blowouts. I also like the fact she can string a few matches together, even against higher ranked players, and rarely has a surprise let-down when expected to win, after having achieved a big scalp in the previous match.....unlike certain other players we could mention!
I'm quietly confident she'll come through her next round, where she'd expect to win.
