Yes, like korriban, I think series of good competitive challengers make eminent sense for Evo.
No harm in the odd ATP qualifying though I don't see it as any priority. Indeed, I would be rather concerned if Evo was foregoing such challengers at this stage that he and/or folk about him were getting a bit carried away by recent successes
Nobody has really mentioned the fatigue and disruption to the body **** that intercontinental travel causes. When pro tennis matches can be decided by the smallest margins, a 15 hour (or more) door to door journey in the 48 hrs before a match really is not ideal. It's not like Dan is ever going to have the funds to travel business class. The other factor that hasn't been mentioned is practice facilities. An indoor tournament is going to have limited time available, and I think it is only given to players in the tournament. The are so many courts in Califirnia that you can practise all you like.
Dear Steve, You really need to learn how to spell the word "clock"
Sorry about that!!! Please nobody say it was a Freudian error!
Tara was top of the Q list in France and not in the Q draw so must have made the main draw.
NB Does anyone know where Jade and Mel and Nik Slater are off to ?
Reading between the lines it looks like they are in Linz to sign in for the doubles
Thanks for that, David. That makes sense.
I read on the Girls' tennis forum that Nik and Mel are going to give doubles a real go, as a fixed partnership, certainly over the next few months. It sounds interesting . . .
And I assume Jade will be playing with Sam ? She said something about just finishing a big doubles training block at the NTC.
Again, thanks, appreciate it - it was driving me (mildly) mad . .
Interesting. So it looks like Mel has finally decided to bite the bullet for now, and concentrate on doubles.
It would be great to see Mel and Nik doing well, not least because the more we maybe hear from both in their separate individual ways the better. But just also I feel they both somehow deserve a little real success.
Mel and Nik sounds like potentially a very good move, if they manage to gel.
I hope Jade isn't going to become a doubles specialist though (at least not yet) and is just going to play doubles in Linz only to get some more experience playing on a bigger stage - she's been making very good progress in both singles and doubles this year.

I cannot see Jade being a doubles specialist yet unless Sam is playing WTA tour every week and that is highly unlikely given her ranking and points to defend.
Mel should have been a doubles specialist much earlier, she has won enough tournaments, but Mel and Nik will more often than not be playing ITF 25/50/100k events due to ranking to start with, so Mel can have a crack at singles qualifying.
